Engine will not start

Problem:

Solution:

Air filter dirty or covered.

Change the foam air filter.

Explanation

If the air filter is dirty, then less air can get through to the engine. It is important to have a clean air filter to maintain a consistent air/fuel mixture for the engine.

Quick Check

To check if your air filter foam is too dirty, do the following.

If you have the original RTR air filter:

Step-by-step help

If your air filter foam needs to be replaced, do the following.

If you have the original RTR air filter:

1. Cut the wire ties that hold the air filter to the carburetor, if any.

2. Dispose of the wire ties and complete air filter and replace with Associated's #7705 Air Filter Kit.

3. Clean the new air filter foam with fuel. Do this by pouring a little fuel in a small can and kneading the filter in the fuel. When it looks clean, then dispose of the fuel.

4. Squeeze out the fuel with a paper towel until it's dry.

#7710 Foam Pre-Filter Treatment5. Apply Associated's #7710 Foam Pre-Filter Treatment ($2.50, 1 oz.) to help keep the dirt out. Dab the treatment all around the filter, put the filter in a plastic sandwich bag, and knead it until the filter is saturated, but not soaked.

6. Slide the air filter foam onto the paper filter element, and the paper element into the air filter boot. Add a wire tie to hold the filter in place in the boot.

7. Install the boot onto the carb. Add a wire tie to hold the boot to the carb.

If you have the Associated #7705 air filter:

1. Slide the air filter foam off the paper filter element.

2. Clean the new air filter foam with fuel. Do this by pouring a little fuel in a small can and kneading the filter in the fuel. When it looks clean, then dispose of the fuel.

3. Squeeze out the fuel with a paper towel until it's dry.
