Glow plug igniter does not work. |
Replace igniter batteries or recharge igniter. |
The glow plug of your engine needs power applied externally until the engine can heat it up from within. The glow plug igniter was created for this purpose. The glow plug igniter is in turn powered by a battery or two. If the battery does not work, then the glow plug will not feed the necessary power to the glow plug and the engine will not start.
To check if a dead battery is the problem, do the following.
1. Unscrew the glow plug from your engine, being careful not not lose the washer. Put the washer in a safe place.

2. Apply the glow plug igniter to the glow plug.
3. If the glow plug wire turns red, then the glow plug igniter is not the problem. Skip the next two steps.
4. If the glow plug wire does not turn red, then either the glow plug igniter needs it's batteries recharged, or the glow plug igniter is bad and needs to be replaced with a new one. Proceed to step 5.
5. If you have a new glow plug handy, go ahead and apply the igniter to it. If the wire glows, then the igniter is operating normally, and you need to replace the bad glow plug with a new one. If it does not glow, then try changing the battery and applying the igniter to the new glow plug again and check according to steps 4 and 5.
6. Based on the previous findings, either add the washer to a good glow plug and screw it on the engine, or recharge the battery of the igniter.
If glow plug igniter's battery needs to be recharged, do the following.
1. Read the igniter's operating instruction's on how to change the battery or recharge it. For instance, you may simply need to plug the AC adapter into the wall socket and insert the other end into the igniter's charging hole.
