Stiles Wins Summer Shootout Round 2

Last weekend, the Action Model Centre-supported Summer Shootout Series continued with Round 2 in Chesterfield, UK. With 100 entries spread across five classes, the event was sure to be top notch thanks to a challenging track with good grip levels. The LMP12 Modified class was highly competitive with a field of National-level drivers fighting it out for the win.

Qualifying eventually came down to a tight battle between three drivers with Andy Murray eventually coming out on top. Mark Stiles and his Reedy-powered R12C3 narrowly missed out on the pole position with former IFMAR World Champion David Spashett rounding out the top three. An exciting A final was in store as only .35 seconds separated these three drivers!

In the A final, the lead trio immediately pulled away from the other cars while running nose-to-tail during the opening laps. Eventually, Mark Stiles inherited the lead after a mistake by Murray. Mark controlled the gap to second-place Murray and despite a late charge from the pole sitter, held on to win by three seconds.  Murray and Spashett finished second and third respectively, with less than one second separating the pair.

Mark now has a healthy lead in the championship standings thanks to back-to-back wins in the first two rounds. He will be looking to seal the championship with a strong result at round three in July.
