Melton and B44.3 Win 9th Annual CWC

The Colonel's Classic is held every January at Phil Hurd Raceway (S.C.O.R.E) in Savannah GA, one of the longest-running clubs in the USA. The race attracted 261 entries, with a large resurgance of 1:10 electric entries, resembling the events held here back in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Brandon Melton made the trip from North Carolina to race the B5M and B44.3 in the 1/10 Modified classes. The event started off great, as Melton was able to TQ the qualifying points format in both classes with perfect "zeros," securing the pole position for Sunday's mains.

The track changed rapidly as rain came in on Saturday evening, yielding to sunny and windy conditions on Sunday. A last-minute tire change before the 4WD Main event would prove beneficial, as Melton was able to take the win. Mid-race battles with Team Associated drivers Mark Moon and Jason Lam made the race interesting, but a couple of mistakes in the ruts let Melton break away to lead the last segments of the 10-minute main and take the win. The B44.3 took four of the top five awarded positions, including a 1-2 sweep, with Mark Moon taking the second spot. The power, runtime, and drivability from the Reedy Blackbox and Reedy power was unsurpassed, being used by both drivers.

Tim Smith was also able to secure a podium position in 2WD Mod Buggy, and Chris Pace was able to finish third in Electric 1/8 Buggy, both drivers also using Reedy batteries and motors.

If you are in the Southeast, the 10th Annual CWC will be a don't-miss event on the calendar for 2016.
