Held in Boulder City, NV only a few miles from the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, the Silver State Nitro Challenge welcomed R/C racers from all over the world. The drivers were challenged with an extremely rough layout along with a steady 10-15 mph wind. Team Associated's Jared Tebo was able to take first place on the grid by TQ'ing two of the three rounds of qualifying. Rounding out the top three grid positions were Team Associated drivers Ryan Cavalieri and Taylor James.

From the start of the race, Ryan Cavalieri, and Ryan Maifield checked out from the field. (An early tangle shuffled Tebo to the back of the field. This incident, combined with a sporadic throttle problem, forced Tebo to fight hard to contest for the win.) Through the 45-minute main Cavalieri and Maifield ran nose-to-tail waiting for the other to make a mistake. Maifield caught a break when he ran out of gas and was able to coast to his pit stall losing hardly any time. In the end, Cavalieri was able to hold off Maifield at the checkered flag to lead the 1-5 sweep for the GT.
