Jason Ruona, Paul Wynn, Daimon Borkowitz, and Felix Law win at round 3 of the Super Cup Championship Series

NewRed Hobbies was the site for round 3 of the Super Cup Series, held on October 29th, in Ocala, Florida. A great weekend to be at an indoor track, as drizzle and rain was coming down Friday evening and Saturday morning. The NewRed crew had the new layout prepared, with a good variation of jumps and a very consistent surface.

Racing started right on time as Mike Applegate and Dave Dominguez got down to business with 174 entries and 20 heats. Qualifying ran smoothly. The format would be two rounds of qualifying, going on rocket-round, the top 8 going to the main, with two bump-ups from the lower main events.

With the mains set, it was time to get on with the show. First up was the "kid" who stole the show. Having a terrible day of qualifying in Stock Buggy, Daimon Borkowicz won the C Main. He started off ninth in the B Main and within the first few minutes was already threatening the front of the field. With about two minutes to go, he moved into second and started hunting down the leader, Jason Venezia. After a bobble by Jason, Daimon was right on his bumper. Instead of just settling for the transfer spot, it was a battle to win the race. The last two laps were almost side by side, swapping for the lead. With a last corner dive, they went across the line at the same time, with Jason's transponder picking up first for the win, and the last two spots in the A Main would go to the battling drivers.

In the A Final, running clean laps, tenth place qualifier Daimon was already in fourth place by lap three. TQ Ruffy Rios was in front, and the battle for position was on for the podium. Late in the race, Daimon found his way to second and was hunting down the leader. With about a minute to go, a mistake by Rios put Daimon in the lead. At the buzzer, it was Daimon Borkowicz, all of the way from the C Main, for the win, followed by Ruffy Rios and Mike Applegate. The top three drivers all relied on JConcepts tires. Daimon's B4.1 was equipped with Bar Codes tires in gold compound and Finnisher body and Hi-Clearance rear wing.

2WD Modified hit the track, with TQ by Paul Wynn, followed by a host of Florida's fastest. This race was pretty much a freight train from the start. Jason Ruona maintained his number-two spot but a mistake allowed a small battle for second place. A mistake from Felix Law would drop him back a few spots and Leon McIntosh would now battle for second and third. Just past the half-way point Wynn had some issues with traffic, allowing Ruona to jump his way into the lead. Zach Genova worked his way from the bump-up number ten position and past Leon into third. Crossing the line for the finish, it was Jason Ruona with the win, Paul Wynn second, and Zach Genova in third. All used JConcepts bodies and Bar Codes in Gold compound.

Tim Moon had the TQ in Stock Truck and he maintained his lead. A bobble by Walter Cruz would shuffle him back, allowing Mike Applegate to move into second, and Kory Ferguson third. At the tone, this trio would get the extra lap, and secure their podium spot. Keeping their gap the same on the final lap, it was Tim Moon with the win, followed by Mike Applegate and Kory Ferguson.

Modified Truck was all TQ Caleb Ohara with a wire-to-wire win, followed by Mike Barone in second, and Dave Dominguez third.

Stock Short Course, the largest class of the day, was next. TQ Dave Bowser lead the parade of short-course trucks at the tone. Some hectic battles and a few mistakes changed the running order several times per lap. By the middle of the race, number two qualifier Daimon Borkowicz had the lead, Dave Bowser had gotten knocked out of the top three, and third qualifier Michael Bruce was getting pressure from the back from his brother Billy. At the buzzer, it was Daimon with his second win of the day, Billy Bruce fought his way to second, and Michael Bruce grabbed third place. Daimon's winning SC10 Factory Team was outfitted with JC Raptor body, Bar Codes tires in gold compound and Hazard +3mm wheels.

4WD Modified had TQ Felix Law laying down the laps, with the rest of the field chasing him down. With everyone running their own pace, the only battle was to get to the finish. At the tone, it was Felix with the win, Mike Barone second, and Zach Genova third.  Felix's B44.1 was outfitted with Bar Codes tires in blue compound, Punisher body, and 6.5" HD rear wing.

Pro 4 SCT was led once again by TQ Felix Law laying down the law while a hectic battle for the rest of the field was taking place. Second through sixth were swapping back and forth, only one mistake could shuffle drivers back several positions. In the end it was Felix with a comfortable lead and first place, a mad dash to the finish would find Cory Schoppmeyer second, and Lazi Jamos third.

Pro 2 Mod was hotly contested and Paul Wynn with his second TQ of the day lined up at the front. At the tone, it was Wynn who led the entire race, with the guys in the middle of the pack in a battle, with many position changes throughout. In the end, Wynn took first place, Zach Genova moving his way into second with a strong drive, and Ryan Eckert battling back and forth to end up in third.  Both Paul Wynn and Zack Genova relied on JConcepts to tackle the Short Course class.

As the day came to a close, an awesome day of racing at NewRed Hobbies was had by all. "Thank you" goes out to the track crew for a job well done, and to the Super Cup race directors for a smooth and well-run program. Most of all, "thank you" to the racers and the large group of people who turned out. See you at the next Super Cup, November 26th, in Daytona.

Special thanks to Jason Ruona of JConcepts Inc. for this report.
