Tim Smith Takes Round 3 of the Georgia Champ Series

Historic Phil Hurd Raceway hosted round 3 of the Georgia Champ Series this past weekend in Savannah, GA. This event brought some of the fastest racers from GA, as well as SC and FL. The track crew did a fantastic job of putting together a great track surface and layout. As always during the middle of the year, it was a hot and humid day in Savannah. But the track grooved up very nicely and was very fast and flowing, which allowed for some great racing action.

In the Pro Buggy Class, Associated's Tim Smith was able to capture the overall TQ by winning two of the three qualifying rounds. At the start of the A Main, the top three got away quickly and set a comfortable gap to the rest of the field early on. Lopez was able to grab the lead shortly before the first pit stop but Smith regained the lead after a flame-out by the leader Lopez just before the 20-minute mark. The race was on for the last 10 minutes with Lopez putting on a charge. In the end, after 30 minutes of racing, Smith held out for the victory despite a hard charge from Lopez on the final lap. Tim's Team Associated RC8.2 equipped with JConcepts Punisher body and wing proved to be solid platform all weekend.

Thanks to Tim Smith for this report.
