AMC Summer Shootout Round #3

Reedy factory driver Mark Stiles took TQ in the Modified 1/12th scale class at Round #3 of the Action Model Centre supported Summer Shootout series last weekend. Held at the popular Chesterfield track in the UK, this championship gives 1/12th scale drivers an opportunity to compete in a recognized series during the summer months and BRCA Nationals off season.

Stiles started the day at a moderate pace as he slowly got to grips with his brand new Reedy powered CRC chassis, but by the third round of qualifying he was matching the lap times being set by his CRC team mate Mick Farrell and 1/12th scale legend David Spashett. In the fourth and final qualifying round, Mark put in a clean and solid run to deny Spashett TQ by just 0.13 seconds. Early pace setter Farrell suffered a mechanical failure during the run and would therefore line up in third on the grid for the 8-minute A-final.

Mark led the field away at the start of the A-final, but a mistake at the end of the first lap detached one of the damper tubes and misaligned the centre pivot on his car. Despite a spirited drive back to second place, which included a well executed passing move on Mick Farrell, Mark was unable to catch David Spashett who inherited the lead and kept it until the end.

Mark had the following to say about his Reedy electrics package:

“I’ve been very pleased with the performance of my Reedy motors and batteries since I joined the team just before the IFMAR worlds this year. Today I used a Sonic 3.5 motor and 1S 6500mAh LiPo battery. I had arguably the best power on the straights with superb feel on the twisty infield, but best of all was that I didn’t suffer any issues with fade like my competitors which allowed me to remain competitive throughout my runs and set fast laps right until the end of the races.”

Congratulations Mark and good luck in Round #4!
