"What has been your experience with brushless motors?"

I have been running the Novak Brushless system in both of my cars since it was introduced and I will never go back to brushed as long as the races I attend will allow me to use it. I race mod buggy with my B4 and 4WD open with my XXX4 and now my TC3"O". The power and lack of maintenance it great.

i used one against the top guys at the west coat cancer race, they take some getting used to

I could say that after you have used brushless it is hard to go back!

They are wonderful  . . .  They are more powerful and efficient also they are extremely long lasting. I have got a lehner system and the only thing I have repaired is the ball bearing which wore down but after replacement it is as good as new. Its speed can put a nitro car to shame and run time is exceptional.

I have driven a car w/ the Novak SS in it. I did not notice a huge gain or loss in power, but I enjoyed the idea or a no or low maintenance motor.

nice and powerful, but very uncontrollable. and make even fast guys look very slow. stick with brushed motors.

I AM CURRENTLY USING A NOVAK SS5800 AND HAVE FOUND IT TO BE QUIET IMPRESSIVE. MY B4 HAS TAKEN A LIKING TO IT ALSO.

the brushless motor was ok but I liked the regular motors better because you can work on them and see how they work

JUST STARTED OUR INDOOR CARPET SEASON WITH MY BRUSHLESS SYSTEM. WORKS AWESOME JUST WORRIED ABOUT THE SPEED CONTROL OVERHEATING. RUNNING TC3 WITH 72 SPUR AND 24 TOOTH PINION ON A FAIRLY TIGHT TRACK. IT'S THE NOVAK SYSTEM. GREAT TORQUE TO GET OUT OF THE CORNERS WITH.

I have been running brushless motors for about 2 years, and I love them. No more cutting, cleaning, or buying of parts. Consistent performance run, after run and more power than any brushed motor can dream of (except for the Novak system, it is really weak). my Aveox has seen everything from my TC3 to my E-Maxx and any amount of cells from 6 to 14. I can't wait for some other companies to make brushless motors and help drive the price down, while driving the availability up.

I have used the Novak Super Sport Brushless system and as a gas racer the only way I will race electric again is if it's brushless. Just got tired of messing with motors and batteries.

I have had a couple of brushless motors and all of them sucked they never even got good connections and would sometimes bind up.

Mine has been that they have longer run time and they do not get hot.

Brushless is a riot !!!! Ran it all day in my T4 and it was smooooth. Wiped it down at the end of the day and it was ready for more. Couldn't help but laugh when the Nitro guy's were getting passed even after 4-5 minutes of run time. I have seen my future...and there are no brushed motors in it!!!

Absolutely positive!!! I only run brushless now unless I'm racing off-road. My local track So-Cal even races brushless sedan. The only concern with brushless is the initial cost. But as soon as you get a good speed control mod motor or stock a comm lathe and replace brushless your either matching or exceeding cost of a brushless. That's my two cents

I personally haven't run a brushless motor. But, I've seen quite a few of them ran at tracks. They are smooth, quiet, very efficient, and a good power output. Although, the non brushless motors were keeping up with the brushless motors! hmm...

I've seen the Team Novak brushless motors in action. Very nice!!

Can't justify the expense for just bashing, limited exposure doesn't hasn't shown big benefits over brush systems for racing. Still not useable for most clubs or tracks.

I have been using a novak s/sport system now for 5 mths on the dirt I find it very predictable and smooth. the best thing is you just concern yourself with car setup and not have to worry about gearing. a big plus is you go up in pinion size and your top speed increases without decreasing lowend torque. best money I have spent besides the 2 B4 buggy's, mine and the son

Love the brushless stuff. Super low maintenance and longer run time... And no comm cutting or brush replacement.

I've been using them for both on road & off road driving & bashing. I don't race but my friends & myself run our cars at least one or two times a day. As much as a 6x a day when work is slow He He! I ran it in my rc10T3 & now my T4 & its sweet. I also have one in my ofna OB4e,Yokomo TC4 special, & a losi street weapon. The brushless motors give the nitros a run for their money. They impress me every time I run it with a good battery

I regularly race my Novak SS5800 in my XXX buggy with good results. I'd say it's comparable to a 12 turn modified but without the maintenance and slightly longer run times. Drawbacks? I still haven't found the best gear ratio due to the piles of torque the motor has and not all race events allow brushless motors. Congratulations for winning the 2WD worlds!!

Got to run the Novak brushless just a few days ago for the first time, I thought it was very smooth & easy to control. When Novak offers a brushless with a bit more power I will most likely switch to Orange power over the Blue & Reedy

I have a Novak Brushless..... its amazing i love it. You never have to clean it, amazing run times, and huge torque and speed. For the same price you could get a sweet speed control and a really nice motor to go faster.... But this is good for me.

I had a good experience. The only con was that they get hot to easily. over all I liked mine.

I bought a used brushless set up and 8 cheap battery packs. This was the single best thing that helped improve my driving being able to put in hours of practice and not to worry about maintenance.

outstanding-best thing going with electric motors

I purchase a Novak SS brushless system for my TC3. I must say I was impress with it’s performance. It just as fast a 12 turn motor, but without the maintenance. I would defiantly buy a brushless system again.

awsom...fast..responsive.....runs longer...cooler....near 0 mant.... recomended!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love my brushless motor. In my B4 on 6 cells, my Lehner Basic 5300 motor rips, and acceleration is unbelieveable. I can't wait to get an 8 cell built...THAT will turn my B4 into the ultimate speed demon. :D

I have had a very good experience with brushless motors, presently I am using a Novak SS in a T4 stadium truck and the power is just about perfect! I have also tried a Hacker C40-8s with the Master Sport Controller and each system feels very smooth and responsive in my truck. I have also used a Lehner basic motor / Hacker controller combination in a RC surfer with excellent results. The obvious benefits of brushless like, longer run times, great power with less maintenance, and lower long term ownership costs were the bait that got me hooked Other things that I really like about brushless power: -Consistent power run after run, day after day................ -The fact that I can now adjust the throttle expo. on my radio to shift the powerband into the zone that I like best, and it stays there, never needing adjustment again (unless I feel like changing it). -More free time for other necessary vehicle maintenance, means that time and energy formerly used on motor maint. can be devoted to a higher level of upkeep on all the other things that need attention like shocks, diffs., bearings, tires, batteries.............................................and anything else you can think of. -Cool down time is about as long as it takes to change out the battery pack, I have 9 packs and this is HUGE! The mass of the heatsink on the controller is way, way, way less than the mass of a brushed motor, and it cools off in less than 5 min. (the brushless motor can only ever gets warm) no matter the ambient temp.! -More driving = better driver = less crashing = less parts breakage = more cash in pocket. I love this formula, but no matter what kind of motor, if you overpower a vehicle it probably will be crashed more and break more parts, not to mention the increased wear on the drive train. Check your ego and then pick the proper motor and this will not be a problem. -No more messy, toxic, stinky, and expensive motor spray, ever. HOORAY! I believe Brushless motor systems are the future and present of Electric RC, they are cheaper, and provide for a more relaxing, and fun overall experience making RC hobbies much more enjoyable for me and I will not be going back to dirty, messy, maintenance intensive, expensive brushed motors any time soon! Thanks Signats

Well, I was stupid and bought the cheapest thing possible. It performed very well but it made my car slower than my Orion core 27 turn. I suggest getting a Novak super sport because they run very well. This is what I use now. I think brushless will revolutionize the motor industry In a few years but not many people have tried them to know Good luck and happy r/c racing

I've been racing a Novak SS system for the last few months in both a T3 and TC3 and have been very impressed by it. Performance is very close to an 11 or 12 turn brushed motor and it has operated flawlessly. Hopefully the sanctioning bodies won't stand in the way of this technology.

Brushless are great, we in Australia have many clubs racing them at this level. Hacker seem to be the most popular at this stage for out right performance, Novak are a great all-round unit and a great for smaller tracks. The almost no maintenance means a heap of money is saved over the life of the motor/speed control. A great way to get novice mod drivers up and running. The only detrimental thing at this stage with brushless is the size of the speed control. Peter Ellis

I'm not going back to brushed.. too expensive. Some brushed motors can definitely go faster, but this is a hobby for me and I don't always have to win. It's so cool being able to spend time tuning suspension and driving as opposed to cutting com's. One of the biggest advantages is being able to run pack after pack in on road racing (TC3). I also have it in my T3. I can go through dusty conditions and the motor is not affected. I'm hoping Reedy and Trinity make competing systems. I think this will be the next revolution in this industry.

Hello, I bought three of the Novak SS brushless systems this last summer, we ran them in everything from Dirt oval sprint cars to late model body oval cars and we also ran them in the modified off-road truck class.. All with great success. Ton's of power/torque. No Maintenance, in a very hash environment, very dirty dust and sometimes mud... I have to commend Novak on what they have accomplished with this new technology. Thanks, Tom Murray 404 N. Prairie St. Jacksonville, IL 62650 ph.(217)-243-5352

I have been running the B4 with stock motors and with a 13double for racing. The first launch with a brushless system flipped the car over backwards!. Wheelies? No prob. Smooth power makes our local tight/loose track very doable. AND NO CUTTING COMS!!. It just took awhile to get the gearing right. Love the B4. Love the B4 on brushless!

i just bought one and I love it , longer run times , great power ,and it doesn't wear out .

I have a Novak supersport brushless, I have used it in a touring car a couple of times and it is presently fitted in my (new) RC12L3 used once so far( 4 cells), I am very happy with it!, more power than I can handle and still while using my very old NiCad cells. no motor maintenance :) I am a hobby/ club racer who is unable to race regularly. and had been eagerly watching for the technology to catch up and the motor's be released, it was inevitable that i would get one! look forward to them being accepted in brca motor regulations

(not good) I have a hacker the motor seems to be good but can not get the speed control to hold up.

my experience with brushless motors is awesome the have so much power!

The Novak system looks extremely impressive in one of our customer's RS4 Rally. Had great throttle response without any noticeable "cogging" and it was extremely fast.

Hello Team Associated, I have two Brushless systems, I have one made by Hacker CT40 8 turn, in my XXX-4. The second system is the Novak Super Sport brushless motors. I have had both systems for a couple months now without a problem. The Novak system is very smooth (it is a sensored system) where as the Hacker is a bit "jerky" on take off.(non sensored) The hacker system does "cog" once in a while, which could cost you if it came down to the wire and right before a big jump it coged and it flipped you. The Hacker does have more power than the Novak system, it also spins at a higher RPM. I took my cars to an R/C shop in New Hampshire called hilltop R/C . www.hilltoprc.com I gear up my hacker I turn laptimes identical to the 1/8th scale nitro cars. Brushless motors are not the fastest motors on the market, The cost is rather extravagant on systems like the hack ( around $429 for a setup) because you are required to purchase the speed control as well. But for a semi serious racer that runs two classes, Its the perfect choice. No more worries about replacing brushes, turning armatures and inconsistent power. This is just the beginning of Brushless technology in off road R/C racing and I believe that we will see some great advances in the near future that will all but make history of the brushed electric motor. -Amateur R/C racer
