What do you say to help someone decide between buying on road or off road?"

where will you run it, on dirt or pavement?

Usually a newbie asks that question, so I say "off-road" because it's more fun for a basher, which is almost always what a newbie does before hitting the racetrack. Speed gets boring after awhile, but you can always build a bigger jump! -TheMissile

Well depends on what you like. Off road kits are much stronger. On road is all speed and handling, but its more weaker. I rather go for off road because, you can drive on and off road. and plus off road is more "FUN"!

simple where do you live? by lots of dirt or in the city with streets to race up and down.

Onroad racing is a little more set-up intense. So if you're the type who really wants to get involved with every facet of your car's dynamics, onroad is for you. Offroad is easier on the set-up but a little more difficult to drive because you are dealing with 3 dimensions. You're not only driving around a track but you are jumping and landing as well. It's also a little dirtier depending on the condition of the track. Ultimately my advice is to drive both and see what you like better. I started in offroad and just got my first onroad car. I love both! You will eventually too! Good Luck Todd JG

I would help by telling them if you buy on road you have to keep it clean and you have to go on smooth surfaces, but if you get off road you could pretty much drive on anything and rarely clean it.

An on-road kit is quite different from an off road kit. an on road kit is more of a street racer made for pavement and carpet. the bodies are modeled after real cars and usually have much more detail. Although they rule the streets, most do not do well on gravel, grass and dirt etc... Cars such as hpi's proceed will blast any other off road vehicle on streets. Off road cars and trucks are obviously made for OFF ROAD. while being able to drive on both on and off road, it really is built for dirt, gravel and in some cases sand. 90% of off road cars are buggies the other 10% being rally cars.

if you like speed get an on road kit but if you like jumping, climbing, and sliding then get an off road kit

"What are your interests?" would be my first question back. The next thing would be if they are interested in competing or just toying around. After those questions were answered it should guide them in the direction. My thoughts is why not have both.

I say that on road has higher speeds and tighter turns while off road has less speeds. I prefer on road because it's nowhere near as dirty. I also think that on road takes more skill. So it just comes down to what you like after you take out maintenance and cleaning.

I think that getting a off road kit gives you much more versatility, as an on road car you can on race it on the pavement. So I would get a off road truck so that you can race it on both pavement anf dirt.

I would first ask the person where they planned on running their new R/C vehicle, if they have a large clean parking lot on-road may be a good choice, if the area is rough or dirty terrain then off-road may be a better choice. Second I would ask if they have any local race clubs and to choose a vehicle that would allow them to participate in the race classes they race. Third, if the first two questions have not made up their mind then I would simply ask what type of R/C vehicle interests them most.

Do you plan to race? If so look at your local hobby shop, is their track offroad, onroad or both? If you do not plan on racing than get an off road car or truck-- it will go just about anywhere. Onroad cars do not do well at any place but the track. Off road cars and trucks can usually take more abuse as well.

Ask them what they want to do with their R/C Car?

SSee what kind of track are in your vicinity and by a good car for this kind of track. Later you can buy a cheaper model of the other kind to bash around with. But if there is no track in your vicinity for the car that you have, the fun will be quickly over. Racing alone against yourself gets very boring very quickly

Off-road is more exciting because it has jumps, and on road is faster sometimes, but you can take an off-road car on road.

I would say that if you want to buy either an on road or an off road kit, these are several things that they should consider: 1) what type of track is nearest to you, and 2) do you just want to drive it on the track, or also at your house? Buy the type of car that you can race at a track near your house. I would also say that if you want to run the car at your house, buy an off road vehicle because they can run on asphalt or on dirt and grass.

The big thing is where are you gonna drive? You can drive off road vehicles anywhere. You need a place to drive an on road vehicle. Both types are fun but I tend to get more uses out of my off road vehicles.

What do more people race around your area? Get whatever more people have.

where can you drive it?

what is nearest for you ? paved or dirt ???

Well, it depends who you are. Do you like to go outside and see dirt fly? Or do you like to see a little car go 50mph? It depends where you live--do you live near a race track or a nice paved parking lot? If not I would recommend an off-road car. Personally I like on-road more, but it seems like people off-road more. -Jordan Smith

I would ask them what do you want to do with it. if you want to run it in the grass or just be crazy with it I would say you want a Off-Road Kit. Then again if they just want speed and not do a lot of cleaning go with a On-Road Kit.

I advise the buyer to consider what they really want to do with the vehicle and what they run at there LHS. Some say you don't need to worry about the LHS part, but most people will get the urge to race, and buying the wrong vehicle ( ie- one that isn't run there ) can be a big downer.

Are you planning on racing, and if so, what kind of track is near by. Is it a on road carpet track, or a outdoor dirt track.

What do you like most in real life, dirt or street? Choose that. Racer 9

Ask wether they plan to race or to just drive for fun as off road cars are a bit better for that. If they plan to race explain what racing there is locally and help em out from there.

Off-road kits are more versatile - they can be driven just about anywhere - but they require more frequent cleaning and maintenance. On-road kits have awesome performance and require less wrench time but must be driven on a smooth surface (limiting where you can run them). For bashing, off-road makes more sense because you can take your vehicle with you wherever you go. For racing, it all depends on what's popular in your area (check with your hobby store). Ultimately, buy what interests you the most; no sense buying an off-road truck if you love touring cars. Jerry

First i would ask what's your local track, on/off road, then i would ask do they like clean or dirty racing...

It really depends on what you want. If you want nothing but speed, on road cars are for you. If you want rugged, all-terrain power and jumping, you should get an off road kit.

I would first ask them which would they prefer? Secondly, what tracks are near their home. Thirdly, I would tell them both types of racing are fun (and totally different) and if both types of track are near their home, to go off-road first then migrate to on-road. I would encourage going ultimately to doing both on and off-road, letting them know that both racing types complement each others driving styles (on-road allows one to refine line selection as well as car set-up; off-road helps with throttle control (due to varying track surfaces as well as in-air car attitude during jumps).

on road fast+clean no dirt and sand. did i mention how much faster on road is?

If you want to be able to race around a lot of places then you should buy an off road kit. But if you want speed and looks you should buy an on road kit.

FIRST OFF BOTH ARE VERY FUN AND EXCITING! YOU MUST CONSIDER YOUR ENVIRONMENT. DO YOU LIKE HIGH FLYING JUMPS AND OFF ROAD WHEELING OR ARE YOU INTO HIGH SPEED AND FIERCE COMPETITION LIKE NASCAR? I WOULD RECOMMEND OFF ROAD FOR FIRST TIMERS, BECAUSE YOU CAN EXPERIENCE BOTH BY USING STREET TIRES FOR ON ROAD. FROM THERE YOU CAN DECIDE YOUR PREFERENCE.

Are you driving on pavement or dirt?

First, decide whether you want to race or not. If so, research what is available near you. If not, what is practical for where you live and your neighborhood. If you have land and plenty of field or yard--then off road. If you are in a subdivision---then on road would be more appropriate.

A lot of times you need to look at all of the terrain you have around you. if there is a offroad track around you go for what is readily available for your needs or wants.

Do any of your friends race onroad, or offroad? I am sure you would like to do it with friends, so see if any of them has any interests and go by that. I personally say onroad, races look more poetic than hitting a jump wrong and flipping your car..BUT THAT Is also COOL! Jeff from warren

Offroad is only fun with jumps and tracks, how much fun can you have on the same hill all day long?. and offroad is boring on flat surfaces. You can run any onroad car in a parking lot and have 100% fun let alone at a track. Bottom line, both can be very fun, but if you don't have a good place for your Off-Road vehicle.. buy onroad

With on road kits you are limited to nice smooth surfaces. With an off road kit you can do both. Unless you want to race or want some xtreme speed and cornering go off road. DO IT IN THE DIRT.

Where you live (in the country or in the city)? What types of tracks are near by? Which has more durability (if you are a first time R/C driver). If you are on a tight budget, price would be a major factor. Which one appeals to you more (RC10T4 or a TC3)?

if someone asked me what sort of kit to buy. i would tell them what sort of vehicles does the local club race (if any) and what would you want to do with it e.g. carpark bashing or serious racing

1. For race or Play? Racing go with where you plan to race. Few on road tracks have off road classes. For general Bashing around go with an off road truck or monster truck. the higher ground clearance is a big plus. The trucks can be lowered for better on road handling. Try the touring cars. First find the body you like, then fit the chassis to the body.

When they want to have a car to bash, get an off-road. If you want to race, look what kind of track is near you. Or just pick what you think is the most cool. I personally prefer Off-Road.

two things to consider. if you want to race, what type of racing appeals to you? and if not, then what type of place do you have access to run your car? remember, off road stuff can be ok on the pavement too, but on road is a flop most of the time on off-road.

Well basically, you just want to run what is in your area. If there is a pretty good amount of both on-road and off-road tracks in your area, you have to decide how you want to drive, do you want more control (on-road) or less control (off-road)

Do you like Air? yes then Off road !!

What type of track is nearest you that you can spend time at?

Do you want to spend lots of cash on broken parts? Not likely. Then get on-road. It is faster, cleaner, and the racing is much more realistic and close. Most off-road passes are made from people crashing. On-road passes are made with strategy and finesse. If it rains a lot in your area, go on-road, b/c the asphalt dries a lot faster than dirt.

well it's a tough decision. if you are a thrill seeker I'd go for off road. But if you want to have an awesome fast car to race go for on road.!

If you want to fly across the air at 50 mph without a plane but with a land car then you want off road or skate parks or if you want to jump then its off road plus the parts are harder to break or if you want speed at 80-90 mph and clean ness then you want on road

tell them to buy what they can afford and look for shop support

On road kits are just that: on road. They cannot be driven offroad or expected to perform well when subjected to rippled and potholes pavement. Offroad kits have the potential to be run on both surfaces, but their on road performance will pale in comparison to a true on road vehicle.

Basically difference between on road kits and off road is the choice of the individuals whether one wants to race rough or be precise and smooth....so on road is like racing motorcycle whereas on road is trail motorcycle which we can take almost all types of way....

Do you want to go high or fast?

u get a lot more use out of a off road car and they're a lot more tougher

I'll say on road cars, because they don't break a lot like off-roads when you go racing and a lot cleaner too.

Cleaning off-road cars are pain in the @$$.

Though on road cars are considerably "cleaner" and easier to maintain than off road cars but you should know that you need to find a certain surface to play with while with off road cars you can play with it almost anywhere and almost at any surface. On road cars also considerably cheaper to maintain in terms of worn parts compared to off road cars. And finally, on road cars are a better and yet more more realistic looking cars , eg. touring cars, compared to a single seater buggy.

Ask them if they are going to be racing or just playing. On-road cars need treated surfaces in order for the car to handle properly. Off road cars can be operated on a wide variety of surfaces so they are really the best all around way to go, especially for a beginner.

depending on where they live could help make the decision. If the person has a dirt pit close to were they live then i would suggest a powerful off road

do you want to play in the dirt? or you can always drive your real car on the road!!!

Go to your local track and see which one is more interesting to you

Which do you like to watch more, rally or formula-racing? There, you have the answer to the question of road/off-road.

On road riding is a subset of the off road cars' possibilities. Buy OFF-ROAD for more fun!!! :o).
