i think organization of competition leads to more satisfaction and accomplishment, and leads to longer lasting interest in any activity.

Clubs are only as good as their members. Clubs are great for non-profit tracks but too many chiefs are hard to deal with at hobby shop based tracks where the money goes to the owners.

The pros are the friends, competition, lack of sponsor pressure, the help you can get from other racers, and the non-professional atmosphere. The cons are the lack of organization, the facilities, and the ungroomed tracks.

The pros are that you have a regular place to race every week. Also, you meet new people and have a great time. The only con I can see is that you have to pay to race. The pros far out way the cons.

I think most people who race with clubs stick with the hobby longer. I've been to tracks that are run by the shop, run by the members, and run people outside of the store. I find the most enjoyable atmosphere when a few people run the track to keep things organized, but they have no financial relation to the hobby shop. This is how my track does things and it works perfectly.

RC clubs are good for rule guidelines and $ support for tracks etc. The down side is for those who want to race but don't have the $ or experience that club members have, might eliminate them from the sport if there is no other place to race.
