"When you only have only a day or two to test, how do you find the best setup at a new track?" (submitted to us)

look on a forum

Change 1 thing at a time and see what happens. Either that or steal a set-up from a buddy that knows what they are doing!

Find out what the fastest racers are using. Ask around.

Start with the stock setup and make individual changes to that. Sometimes you have to go with as close to 100% as possible. You can always adjust your driving.

i go to the stock set-up and then change things from there

quite often in the UK we can only turn up to a track on the day of racing and if lucky get 30 mins practice, we run 4 heats then a final so depending on it being FTD or not the first 2 heats are generally used to setup the car. However, not having that many tracks you can generally gauge what the setup is going to be quite well as a lot a similar. Other than that asks the locals etc at they are all normally friendly.

Look at what the fast guys at the track are using, that will save a lot of time on looking for the best tires and an idea of what a good setup should be. Make a few runs with a good base setup to get used to the track and only change the car if its really bad to run. When you know the track, start to adapt the car to your style of driving.

first use your set up sheets to identify a track with the same similarities and then fine tune from there. If you don't use set up sheets then the best thing to do would be to make major adjustments to the car before fine tuning.

You will find it easy to make & use Track setup Sheets. The easiest way to make is buy a pack of 3X5 Cards. At the top you are going to write the Track size. (from standing at the Drivers Stand) start with WIDTH x Height. This will work with Car Set up sheets. Make a list at the Bottom of the Track sheet or the Car Sheet. Like Car set up sheet 3,2, and 7 all work on a 60x45 track (will slight adjustments) You will find this is a great way to speed up the Car Set up. I hope this Helps.

I used the same setup as my last race on the same type of asphalt and then that will get me close to what i need to use. I just tweak little things like springs, shock location ect.

I like to run as is...and force myself to learn the track as it is.

Either take a similar setup from another track or ask the track pros on a base setup.
