1999 Question of the Week:
What does your family think of your R/C madness?
My wife would rather I be doing R/C than going out to the bar. It's a lot safer than ATV or motocross too. And this hobby is a heck of a lot cheaper than hopping up a real sports car ($20 for a pair of R/C tires vs. $200 for one full-scale tire, for instance). She thinks it's ideal and safe and my R/C friends are great.

Believe it or not, my wife likes assembling the cars better than driving them, and I prefer driving the cars than putting them together. Are we a team, or what?

They can't believe how much money I spend on my racing cars and equipment. My T3 has a Tekin G12c III, Maxtec aftershock motor, blue screws, and A toyminator body ( not recommended for racing I found that out) I just got my B3 and haven't assembled it yet, I got a G10 speed control for it and both those and my TC3 when it comes out (soon really soon I hope) they are controlled by a futaba FM. oh yeah way to go Tyrone Wright and his MP6 at Nationals I think it was nationals, you are the man!!!

[Associated responds: OK, but what does
your FAMILY think about your R/C?]
Well I always told my parents that its a hobby and it has kept me out of trouble so far in life. But that was seven years ago when I was 18. Now im 25 and getting my 4 year old son involved in r/c cars for the first time. I hope he picks up on my r/c bug because I learned valuable lessons from the hobby back in the old day's! Friendship, responsibility, and to care for others newbies!
Well my family supports my R/C interest, and I had a brain storm to make my own track, they are behind me 100%.
first i want a r/c car for playing around, i sent a friend to the hobby shop to pick one for me since he had a lot of experience about r/c cars, he got me a rc10gt, to my surprise this truck is an animal. i loved the truck, so i need to get more, now i own seven, in the last four months. oh my wife don't care, she takes the gt for a spin every weekend
my family want to send me to r/c anonymous, i'm addicted, but my wife support me she stand
beside me all the time , that if she's not driving my rc10gt, r/c cars is all i can think
about, please help, MAKE THE DAMN NITRO TC3, this will cure me...
[Associated responds: Alas, there is no known cure for
R/C addiction.]
My wife likes the fact that I have a hobby that keeps me from getting hurt or killed like
motorcycles or real race cars but, she don't like the fact that I spend tons of money on
my RC10B3,RC10T3,RC10GT,RC10LSS,and my Yokomo YR4M2 sedan! But on the other hand I have
some change leftover for the RC10TC3.

My family believes it is great because If I am doing this and spending my money on cars.
It leaves less time and money to get into trouble with. It also gives me a way of showing
thought ability.

[Associated responds: You can also tell
them that it teaches you the fundamentals of being a car mechanic in the future.]
I have a b3. I'm 12 yrs old My parents think that spending as much money as I do on an rc car is stupid. They can't stand it when I buy something and go and break it. I think it isn't right that they won't let me and my hobby alone.
They think its cool having all these trophies all over my house
my mother hates it. She thinks it's for bored people. Of course I do agree with her! I'm always bored! By the way, I'm 16 years old.
My little brother and my mom really don't care. My dad is a little into it.
well, no objection. they actually support what i do. dad got me a gt, mom got me the nitro ds, sis got me nitro 4 tec, and i got my self a nice t3, i'm addicted. no doubt....aahh there's nothing like a smell of a burning nitro early in the morning....
My parents bought my first R/C car for me and from then on they regretted it because they couldn't get me to do anything else. I spent most of my free time (and money) running and working on the cars but having lots of fun. GromitDodg
They hate it: -they hate the money i spend -they hate driving me to the hobby shop -they hate the motor noise -they hate me talking about it -they hate the fumes (motor spray) -they hate the soldering iron -And now they hate the T3 computer desktop What does a guy have to do to get some RC respect around here
well, i have half of the family hook on r/c cars and the other half think were crazy, they can call me any name in the book, if they want to take my r/c car away they have to fry it from my dead cold hands ....i even got my boss hook to it...RC10GT is the king!!!
they think it sucks, they say are u going to exercise your fingers again. and i say oh just shut up
They think it is expensive. I tell them I buy this stuff so I will have something to do on the weekends. I spend 20 to 30 dollars to go racing for a weekend and have a lot of fun. You spend 20-30 dollars and go gambling and say you have fun but I know you are lying. They don't say much after that.
my mom thinks the biggest waste of money, and that i'm to old to play with toys. my dad likes it.
they r ok with it... except when i need them to drive me to the store or hobby track
This is the best question you could ask! My Dad started me in R/C planes when I was six. When I was ten I got a Blackfoot from him, and it snowballed from there. Now I am twenty-one and still going strong with a garage full of . But, the best thing is that between my Dad and R/C, I am now an electrician for a large corporation making $22/hr. Not to brag, but it's nice to be 21 and loaded. My dad is an engineer, so I guess he knew what he was getting me into when I was six. Forget what anyone says, My career came from R/C. And it's a damn good one. You have to know not only how it works, but also WHY. I am R/C, R/C changed my life. ~Eric
Well at first, they were apprehensive. The R/C hobby itself is not that expensive. But if you break into racing, it can become very expensive. When I first bought my car, they thought wow cool, but when I really began to get into it, with the peak chargers, 2000 packs, and all the rest of that junk that makes you go fast, they thought I was in over my head. Now I have convinced them that it is not all that bad, it is just the initial cost that really got to them.
My family is happy that i have a hobby, but it has become my life. And now they are thinking will i never anything else Dustin Davis
they think it's too expensive
Well, my wife likes that I've narrowed my interests down to racing my buggy and truck which involves only one night a week (Friday) and I get to enjoy real racing instead of chasing other people around in circles...
they think it is ludicrous.
wife responds: YOU PAID THAT MUCH FOR A PIECE OF PLASTIC!!
My family supports it, and the think it is the best hobby one could put your mind to. They also think that it serves as an educational purpose.
They think it's expensive!
They say I could be doing worse things.
A waste of money, although i disagree, i spend money on my rc car and enjoy doing it!
getting too obsessive
My family loves it. The wife is glad that I have a hobby. You know all work and no play does make Jack a dull boy. Thanks Team Associated Mal Edwards
My wife thinks I spend too much time on my R/C hobby, and not enough time with her.I
disagree totally. If only she would let me get her an R/C vehicle, then she would
understand the madness!!!!
T3Mayhem
My girl thinks that I'm sleeping around with my Losi. In fact see's yelling at me right now for being on the computer talking about RC cars......LOL Other than that the rest of the family races with me.
My family is totally behind me in racing. They have from the beginning, my dad always worked on the cars, till about a year ago, when i took charge. Even though RC racing takes alot of my time, my girlfriend is 100% behind me, and understands. Jason Ashton
They love it
My dad gets mad, because every time I crash he gets [mad] because i have to spend a ton of
money to get it fixed.
JGB (RC10 Buggy On-Road).
My wife HATES my R/Cs. She thinks they are lame along with all my racing friends. but then again she has collected over 200 beanie babies since Nov. So what do I care what she thinks about it. LOL Race On
