1999 Question of the Week:

"Which carb seems to work better for you, slide valve or rotary carb, and why?"

I tried a slider in my GT, but it just wouldn't cooperate. So now I use a rotary in there. I always use sliders in my on-road because of the realistic throttle response. Please note that I do not race my GT, but I do race my Vector and Impulse, so throttle response is not that important to me in my GT. It's just an extremely fun truck to play with! AE KIX A*S

Rotary because you don't have to move everything around and are a lot easier to set-up

Well there's two types of racing, off-road and on-road. For off-road I just use a rotary carb simply because most of the time your "off" and "on" on the gas. You're not using the throttle on the off-road r/c car in a smooth linear pull of the throttle. Now for on-road racing the slide-valve is a slight better in the transition from low end to top end. But slide carbs are not for the beginners; they harder to setup properly. Simply speaking, just stick with the rotary carb unless you have mastered the art of the nitro motor tuning and setting up part. Good luck racing Team Associated

I think that the rotary carb, is the carb of choice just for the reason being easy to hook up your linkage. As for performance I think they both work well. Richard Saxton

Although I've never tried slide carbs, I know people who have and claim that they are superior to rotary. I think the linkages for rotary carbs are easier to setup. I've seen people have problems with the linkages in some cars. Also, you must set the throttle EPA on your radio, which can cause problems in entry level radios, even more sophisticated radios, that don't have model memory. JamesL. Austin

I don't think either work better. I like blower head carbs better because they take in much more air and lets your engine hit higher rpms. The only problem is they don't make blower head carbs for RC so that's why I stick to electric.

Rotary carb. Connecting it to the servo takes up less space.

slide valve, because it is better

rotary, i'm a street basher, it's easier for me to me set it up, lot of people likes slide, but i doubt some of the people knows the difference, not unless your saxton, kinwald or pavidis .

rotary it's less complicated, i know some people that they claim slide is far more superior, yes!!! if your a really good driver like R. saxton i don't think it really matters, you can have all the good stuff in it but if can't drive, it's not gonna do you no good
