1998 Question of the Week:

"Which is better, on road or off road?"

off road. The jumps are great and there are more turns. There is more to off road than there is to on road and the cars look better also

Which ever you want as long as you have fun, duck tape, and a lucky charm

Well, it's all in one's preference. I prefer on road, because of the speed. However, if you prefer dirt and jumps, then off road is for you. I'm not saying off road is not fast, just not as fast as on road.

Bill Welbourn Commerce, CA

This is a personal preference for what you are into. I personally have to be off-road. I have been racing off-road for twenty-five years. When I was younger it was BMX from youngster to champion to Pro. then I drove monster trucks (full scale). After I retired from that I raced mountain bikes. Now I drive an AE T-3 I love off road, it seems like more of a challenge because of the lack of traction. It is something that you have to be able to control. Along with driving you have to be careful of you throttle finger. JP

For a beginner i would say off-road. This is because they are so durable and if you wanted to go on-road all they would have to do is stiffen the shocks and get on-road tires. for an experienced driver it all depends on what they prefer. -Dan Spangler

OFF BECAUSE ON-ROAD IS PICKLE JUICE

On-Road because it's not as muddy. Plus the cars look more like the real thing. And the wrecks are a little more exciting than with dirt cars.

off-road because they are more versatile. You can always put on-road tires on it. On-road cars are strictly on-road only. Off-road is both

Off road due to the fact that it requires more handling and it's not really how fast your car is (compared to on road), but the technique you use.

off road es mejor porque el desgaste es menos. miguel Venezuela. (RC10B3)

off road because u can take it on and off road

OFF-ROAD IT IS MORE FUN. PLUS YOU CAN TAKE AN OFF-ROAD CAR ON-ROAD BY PUTTING ON ROAD TIRES ON IT, ON-ROAD CAN NOT GO OFF-ROAD.

Off road because it can go any place and it can go there very fast. On road can go very fast but it can't go off road.

Offroad, it can cost less. The only onroad racing I have done is on carpet. When you are almost at 100% traction, the only thing that can make you faster is more money (batteries, motors). In offroad, generally you never get more than 60 to 70% traction, if that. This means the driver, not money, can make you go faster. The only things in offroad that are important are 1. driver, 2. tires, and 3. tuning and maintenance. I do enjoy running onroad, but it just costs too much for the average person to stay with the lead pack. One more thing, the reason any type of oval dies, be it onroad or dirt, is because of two things: 1. The track record, and 2. The money to pursue the track record.

OFF ROAD BECAUSE YOU CAN JUMP AND GO PLACES WHERE ON ROADS CAN'T, AND STILL BE ABLE TO GO ON ROAD WITH AN OFF ROAD VEHICLE.

Off road racing, definitely! The terrain and jumps make this side of racing more intense and much more difficult. Tuning of components is much in depth than in on road racing.

off road, jumping is a lot of fun!

I think off road cause you can still drive offroad which onroad cars cant so if you had a offroad you can do both.

i think both are great. off-road takes talent because of jumps and slippery tracks. on road is tough because it takes pinpoint precision.

Off road is better. Period. Here is my reasoning. If you buy an off road car, you can always slide on some on-road tires, and presto!! You have an on-road car! But have you ever tried to put off-road tires on an on-road car? HA!! Good luck, pal. That thing is going nowhere. What I am trying to say here is that the versatility is so much greater with off road cars, it's not even funny. Thank you and God bless (especially if you have a T3!!)

off-road, takes more skill

I believe that they are equal. You have to be a good driver to race at all, so it should be equal

Off road, everyone knows it!!! Why? Because they are just more fun. I am sure there are tons of people writing big long boring letters about how great their car is, but I am not!

Off road, because there are awesome jumps that you get to make your car go high with, and then try and land it without breaking.

Off road is definitely better and a lot more fun, because they go places where on road cars don't!

I truly believe off-road is better. You have alot of different variables to overcome in off-road, jumps bumpy tracks, changing track conditions and so on. It's harder to drive off-road to me because of these things, which can make you a better driver in the long run. I tried on-road and could barely make it around the track without hitting the wall. In off-road I can get into the groove and fly without a single mistake. Associated makes the BEST off-roader on the market. Keep up the GREAT work Gene.

I would have to say offroad because it requires more precise throttle control and is more fun because jumps keep you on your toes, and with an Associated you don't have to worry about breaking

Hard to say. Each have their good and bad. Nothing cooler that seeing a truck or buggy go flying thru the air or kicking up rooster tails in the dirt and don't forget PULLING WHEELIES. On road has SPEED. I cant get a buggy or truck with a 2-speed and street tires to go as fast or handle as well as a good on road car with a low wind motor. I would have to say off road is more fun. But Better? Who cares.

off road because you can do anything with them you can go race, backyard bombing, and with a quick tire change run with your on road friends. the best d\s try to do that on road guys.

Off-road is better simply because it offers me the most excitement as a spectator and a racer but that's just me.

Offroad more exciting, tuning is more difficult, navigating the courses is a exciting factor

off road because you can do both with it .

I would say that neither one is better, they are both a real blast. On or off road, I always have fun, that is the name of the game right? FUN that is.

Off road of course. It's a blast to see them jump and still come out in one piece and spin a roaster tail around the next turn.

Offroad because it is more versatile and you are able to use it both on road and off. Onroads are strictly only for the streets.

I would believe that off-road is better. It's fun and exciting with jumps and dirt flying. Dirt can't fly on a street course!

Offroad! The offroad car or truck can be ran under all conditions! On road has a little bit tougher time when "airing out", but I have seen a few do this!!!???!!!

From a beginers point of view, in my country (New Zealand), onroad is cheaper to get into, and easier to achieve results due to the beginners classes, so you could say that it is the best. It certainly has the majority of numbers when compared to offroad. But my personal favorite is offroad simply because I find it more fun and exiting to race on a bumpy, rough track. When I race onroad I find myself trying to get the car airborne by hitting the kerbs!!! IT'S TOO FLAT!

Off road: because theirs more action and more skill needed to drive an off road vehichle than an on road one. Their are more factors to take care of on your car or truck in Off road racing. I do not race on road so this is just an opinion of a dirt thrasher. Though one thing better about on road racing is you don't have to clean your cars nearly as much.

Both are Great!! Nice thing about off-road is... duh..you don't need a road!

Off road is better because it is more competitive and it isn't as expensive to get started compared to On road.

DIRT!

Off road because on road get boring quickly. With off road you get jumps. What else do you need?

It depends on what you want it for. If you want to go on and off road with it, get a rally car. The only bad thing with a rally car is that you can't jump with it.

off road is better because on road you have to change your tires ofthen

On road is better because they go a hell of a lot faster and can be converted to off road. Also a steet is a lot more common than a mud hole to drive in.

I would say that it depends on ones intrests. If you are into the whole on road thing, that that is the better one. if you are into off road, then ya get the picture.

on road is..cleaner, causes less wear and tear, is faster, and is closer to the real thing(NASCAR)...

Less work less hassel probably on road (also cheaper) More track challenge and expensive parts off road

Your choice.

Non of those is better than the other, it depends on what kind of tracks you have in your area, and what You like to race. /marqz

off road because you can go on road and off road just by lowering your suspension and putting road tires on. and on road is only on road no mater what.

Off road is better because you can take an off-road car on-road but you can't take a on-road car off road.

I would say off road racing is better because you have jumps and probably a lot better competition.

offroad... it's a lot more fun to break them!

Off road, because pan cars are HARD to drive.

Off-Road is, without a doubt, better than on-road R/C racing. Why you ask? The main reason is jumps and bumps. Seeing and driving those little technological inventions fly through the air and land perfectly is quite a feeling. So many set-ups. So many classes. So many hop-ups, companies, products. So much fun. I LOVE IT

As far as just messing around an off road vehicle is more versatile because you can lower the suspension and put street tires on it and run on the street very easily, and you can also run it as it was intended, off road. An on road vehicle on the other hand usually does not do that well on an off road track, for the obvious reason of lack of suspension. It has been my experience that off road vehicles also take more abuse than on road vehicles.

Off road is the best, because it's the most difficult sort of RC-driving and your batteries and motors are not the most important items, but your driving and setup skills are, here you easier see the difference between money and skill. On road is fun to, but on top level racing your equipment is very important. You don't need setup skills with sedan racing, once your car has a good setup, you probably don't have to change it for a few races.

I'd say offroad. Here are my reasons, it's more popular in most areas, and you can race your car about anywhere.

it depends on what you like better. personally i like off road better

On road. Because you can go faster and crash even worse.

off, because I said so.

OFF ROAD! Nothing like it. Oh I know there are some people who would say that off road is too hard. Well that is why I love it and have to have some more of it. I tried on road but it was not that fun. Oh don't get me rong, it is a lot faster but not as fun. If you go from off to on, you will hate on road. I say if you start on off road stay there. You will be glad that you did. :-)

off road is better be cos you can jump with the cars and slide and you can do every thing you cant do in on road racing and in off road racing you can do the same things as in on road racing by putting other wheels on and put another body on AND it doesn't take a long time (i hope this is inuf)
