1998 Question of the Week:

"How would you describe a good race track?"

Never raced but my ideal track for off-road gas would be long, sharp turns, good straightways, tabletops, and other big jumps.

For oval, it needs to be at least 200 ft. long and banked a sufficient amounts and smooth. For loop carpet, it needs to be layed the right direction. Lastly and most important the track must be run by competent individuals, willing to put their all into making it work.

consistent traction

smooth and fast.

IF ITS OFF-ROAD, I LIKE IT WITH JUST ENOUGH JUMPS BUT NOT TO MANY. THE DIRT SHOULD BE PACKED AND SLIGHTLY DAMP TO KEEP TRACTION BUT NOT MUDDY. A LONG STRAIGHT SECTION FOR SPEED AND ONE TABLE TOP. PLUS THE PEOPLE RUNNING THE TRACK MAKES OR BREAKS A GOOD TRACK. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST IT SHOULD BE WITHIN A BLOCK OF MY HOUSE!!!!!!

A Good race track is not the one you can cruise around and break records your first time but one you have to have talent to break records not motors and battery's

First it would be off-road. Second, the dirt would be loamy, slightly wet, and no real groove so there are many lines in the turns. Next, there would be a great variety of jumps. A good set of doubles, a rhythm section, maybe a good launcher ramp on a shorter straightaway. PLENTY of outlets for chargers. And a drivers stand that has a great view from BOTH ends. A food stand with great food, cold soda, and "Hooters girls".

JP

On-Road: Tight, technical, < 1 turn per second average, carpet; (preferably 1/12th, the good old days when speed was cheap (I could run six months on a set of good tires), 32 oz car and eight minutes with three qualifiers and a main).

It would have to be a track that has plenty of jumps

A facility that is as clean as possible, including: Pit area, restrooms, and hobby shop. A track has to be well lit, and adequately heated in the winter time (most tracks skimp on the heat). A "good" track must have a computer lap counting system. I know a lap counting system is not cheap, but a track without one is just trying to get by cheap. These tracks with out a counter are just in it for the quick buck, and just are not dedicated facilities. The track surface needs to be well groomed and maintained. The layout should be changed at least once a month.

ONE THAT IS KEPT IN GOOD CONDITION AND HAS A LOT OF JUMPS.

A good race track is a track that has fast and slow corners, long straight, at least a double and triple jump and other big jumps, mogul section that you can go through and still control your car and a couple of hairpins. A good surface is a surface that will blue groove, but not break up. A good track is a track where you can still qualify well in your last qualifier

Lots of jumps and dropoffs, a little bumpy but not rocky. It has to be indoors.

I race carpet and dirt I think that it is very important to vacuum the carpet to get all the loose pieces off so they wont get on your axle. I own a rc10l20 and a rc10 lso I enjoy the dirt too I think that it needs to be smooth and it needs to have one good long straight away and then a table top. I race in Benton Ky at pit stop hobbies it is very nice. For dirt I own a rc10b3 Only one word to describe it awesome I would give up my real car and walk before I let it go. I also have a rc10t2 I don't use it as much. I am saving money for a rc10t3 but I would like to know if you have any planes to make a 4wd.I think that the perfect track would be inside too. I also think that it is nice when the jumps are farther away from the drives stand. Matt Randall Eddyville KY

One that has lots of jumps and many sharp turns. There must be a lot of loose dirt. There must also be some rough spots and some straight-aways. Everyone has their own opinion what a good race track may be. This is what mine would look like.

off road because i been off road for 5 years and its not the speed if you cant handle it u wont win anyway plus off road cars can go on road with a few changes

A good race track promotes side by side racing. If the track is too technical or doesn't flow very well some racers can't get around the track let alone compete. By making a track where there is a wide "line" most drivers can run with each other so passing is easier. With a narrow "line" the racers have to stack up in a line around the track, so when one of the front runners crashes the others pay to. Finally few of us are "factory" drivers, we all get off line, a wider line lets the slower cars go fast and also lets them get out of the way.

A good track has good people.

Where it would be a challenge to get around but easy enough for a beginner to race on.

I feel a good race track would include several different degrees of corners and straights to challenge a drivers skills on control and track tuning and we couldn't forget about those jumps and whoops for an added extra bit of difficulty!

A good track will have a variety of different situations on different parts of the track.

A good race track for me would be one that is not perfect. An on road track would have different types of surfaces and not totally smooth and even just like a parking lot track. It is much more fun to have too adjust to the different surfaces. Offroad tracks should have lots of bumps and some jumps with the surface being for one thing not smooth, much more fun that way.

a good track has doubles, triples, tabletops, sweepers and of course fast turn marshals

It would have to have a straight away so you could catch speed for a big double. It would also need some really good jumps and turns. Jimmy Hart-- Westfield, Indiana

A GOOD TRACK HAS TO BE 6FT WIDE TO PASS, ON THE STRAIGHT. BE BOTH OPEN AND TIGHT, UP AND DOWN HILL, WITH SAND, LOAM, CLAY MIX, TO PACK NICE. ALSO NEED 8FT HIGH FENCE TO MAINTAIN SAFETY WITH NITRO CARS.

Well groomed. Good people. Decent hobby shop. Concessions. That wonderful, nothing like it, daze inducing, smell of tire traction compound. Onroad rules. RB

long , fast, but tight in corners med. jumps . looking for 10 to 11 laps per. heat

A good race track should include a well maintained, easily adaptable track. It should have plenty of passing opportunities, at least one backstraight and large jump. I always like to see a tight "chicane". But the actual track isn't all that counts. The whole facility adds to the overall view of the track. I mean, who cares if you have a great track if the pit area sucks!!

smooth, well evened jumps, not to tight

Well maintained; a good variety of jumps, turns, and straights that can benefit the novice and still be challenging to the seasoned racer. While not necessary, (but it don't hurt) an adjoining R/C shop for parts. And most importantly....a track director (owner) that truly enjoys and appreciates the sport as much as his/hers customers. Support is everything!!!

Many racers, a shop near by, long track, fun!

One that is very technical. The harder it is the better your driving skills will get. Associated RULZ the dirt Greg (Banzi B3)

I think a good track depends on MANY things, like track maintenance if you don't have people taking care of your track your track isn't going to be successful.

One that I win on!!!!

1 inch thick loam 80-100 foot strait banked curves on fast secs. lots of jumps and timing sec.

a good track is one with alot of jumps and bumps and with alot of 180 degree turns to challenge the racers skills

great flow and sweeping turns. 2 to 3 doubles and triples with off camber turns.

One that's fast!!

For offroad, a track with a couple dirt jumps and blue groove conditions and lots of straightaways and sweeper corners.

A good race track is one where the layout is challenging enough to give even the best drivers a difficult time, yet has an atmosphere of fun, not bloodthirsty competitiveness.

One best suited to your racing style.

Indoor, medium sized, one long straight, a combination of fast sweepers and tight turns, a well planned rhythm section, a big tabletop, a big "quad" section or triple, technical in places to reward those with skill, very hard packed damp clay. It would also incorporate computer lap counting, a good driver's stand, good lighting, heat, and AC , large pit area with lots of outlets, a snack bar, a hobby shop, plenty of parking, and most importantly, owned and operated by great people that make the races exciting and fun!

I would describe a good race track like one that has an on site hobby shop, great dirt like the dirt they had in Ohio, great helpful people, outside.. why would you want to be stuffed indoors? umm....and a lap counting system!

A well maintained track that you feel hooked up on as soon as you start driving. And especially one that you have fun on! Fred O.

I would describe a good race track as one with lots of jumps bumps and any other thing that can ruin your race and day. I say this because i love crashing and jumping i also love watching others crash and bash!

A SUPERCROSS TRACK FOR RC TRUCKS........

A track that challenges your skills and has lots of space to battle for positions is a good track.

OFFROAD! Good clay that retains moisture, but has good drainage. Several elevation changes, big jumps, a rhythm section, big enough to spread out the cars, one that rewards excellence, but allows the average driver to have fun too! Should have a very fast section as well as S's hairpins, doubles and triple jumps. Must have a starting grid that maximizes the chance of a clean start. I want it all!

This off road gas the track starts out with a strait-a-way (To gain speed) Then a very large jump. Followed by a series of S-Turns and Small off center bumps then a big double-double jump

A good race track is where fun is emphasized more than winning. It is a relaxing place to go after work. It is a place to talk with your friends. It should be clean and have well maintained equipment. It is a place that you would like to take your family to.

Versatile.. As many conditions on a single track as possible.

For off road, the track would have to have constant traction, no rocks, lots of bumps and jumps, and a lot of other racers.

A layout which is difficult for the experienced but challenging and manageable for beginners. Bring on the sensation of elevation!

A good race track has to have a challenging and very sound layout. But must still have a lot of competition for beginners as well as seasoned veterans'. The layout of the track is what most of the racers see first. If it doesn't appeal to them, then you loose racers and also fans. Pit areas are also important. You have to provide the racers with AC power, self- explanatory. Also, it helps to have a hobby shop run it or be at least a block a way from it. Most of us don't carry all the spare parts we need. So it helps a lot if you break a part and the hobby shop has just what you need.

i think the perfect race track would be a track with medium traction track not as much as MnM but a little more than SO CAL. also the perfect track would be a smooth surface, with a lot of burms, and very big jumps like so cals TRIPLE JUMP!!! it is BIG! I have an associated car and it works the best! SO CAL is my home track and i like it the best!! bye bye

Smooth, sand filled (easy on tires, difficult), rake-able, do-able (landscape timbers, anchored with 3/8 rebar-stakes for curbs, weed screen under packed mortar-sand, cut timbers with chain-saw, any angle, any shape, any bank to turns). Like a raised bed garden.

The best race track has to truly fit it's category of racing. I'm an offroad racer and for me the best tracks are truly off road tracks. The dirt isn't packed down perfect and the jumps aren't all at the same angle. The perfect track is truly off road. It has loose dirt of different sizes from pebble size to fine grain. There's a bumper section and short jumps in tight spots. And tremendous big air jumps down fat straight aways.

Answer: OFFROAD = indoor, blue groove conditions, consistent traction, one long straight-a-way, the rest should be a driver's track (ie sharp turns, slaloms, 2x an 4x jumps, etc). The track should be well maintained (all debris and trash kept off the track to ensure safety for your vehicle and spectators) and watered one or twice a week to keep it from drying out and cracking up. The track should changed monthly or bi-monthly. This gives all drivers a fair chance at claiming victory. It should have a sturdy driver's stand, at least 6-8 foot above the track. The track should (this is a given) use computer timing that records ave. mph, speed, lap time, and over all time. Just remember, call your local track before racing. Find out about the track before you go. This may save you a little setup time at the track. Andy

Any track is good. No dust and no mud helps, but having good people with good attitudes will turn the roughest track into my favorite.

Beautiful surface ,lots of EVEN!! jumps ,smooth curves and no dumb drivers.

I think if a racetrack is big enough for 1/8 gas buggies and is challenging for everyone, that's good. I also would say transponder scoring and a drivers stand is nice.

A good race track should have many different things such as: A good staff that maintains the track Dirt that is consistent Can you see your car at all times? And last but not least, There should be a lot of Associated racers there

The one you win at is what I would call a good race track!!!!

A good track is be well groomed and maintained, the pits are be clean. The shop is always fully stocked. And the people and the atmosphere is friendly.

THE ONES WITH BIG TRIPLE JUMPS AND TABLE TOPS

Friendly helpful staff. Good racing. Good parts inventory. But most of all......GOOD FOOD!!! HA HA:-)

Big, rough, tough, some techncal parts, (i.e.hair pin turns, big sweepers) good jumps and made of real good dirt not packed down at all.

The Perfect track would be very fast, have a loosely packed surface, and very large jumps.

A good race track is one that is fun, but also a good challenge. There are a bunch of us around where I live and we built our own track to race on. When we designed it we made sure that no matter who raced on it, they would have a blast. Its no fun when you get frustrated at the track when your trying to race a few good friends. Of course, none of them can touch my RC10T2!

A good race track's the one that ,in many parts of this , different setup are needed . This makes you work hard to fit all the parts . This includes the layout , of course .

The best track has to have big and small jumps. Also it should have multiple ways of getting around the because of forks in the road. One way would have small jumps for slower cars, while the other has big jumps for the fast ones. there should also be woop-de-doos and multiple landings on the jumps for the slow and fast cars. That would RUUUULLLE!!!!!

A good race track would have a clean pit area, a well groomed track. The atmosphere would be friendly, and everyone would try be helping each other.

A good track has the following: 1. Computer Lap Timing 2. Responsible Turn Marshals 3. A good solid track 4. AC Power 5. On-Site Hobby Shop (For Irresponsible turn marshals) 6. Helpful track owners and track users

One that's easy and that has TRACTION.

Being a strictly off road racer, I really go for a track that demands a finely tuned suspension! Hard packed, blue groove tracks are fun occasionally, but it takes a lot of the "off road" out of it... like asphalt with jumps. Gimme loose, rutted, lumpy dirt with lots of doubles and triples. I know this is almost mutually exclusive to what I wrote above, but I also prefer a track that can be reconfigured easily, say with flexible tubing or different lengths of PVC pipe. Heck, change one turn and run the opposite way and POOF! new track!

Everyone's opinion of a good track in itself is different. I think that what separates tracks from each other is the way each individual track is run. A well organized race is always fun to be involved with and when everyone is having fun, the sport is that much better for everyone involved, veteran and seasoned racers alike.

A good race track has large pit shop, in-door long straight road, lot smooth curve, 90'conner hair pin corner, continue s curve corner, and also a hobbies shop for all brands.
