1999 Question of the Week:
"How did you feel at the first race you entered? Whats different now, if anything?"
It hasn't happened yet but I'll be scared! R/C Doc
Before, i was nervous and now i am as confident as ever.
My first race I was a young boy, confused, didn't know anything about correct battery charging and discharging. No one ever helped me as a newbie at the local track. I've gotten back into the sport a little over a year ago. I went out of town to a track were people were most helpful to newbies racers. My first race was Gas truck geez I was so nervous my hands went numb half way thru the race but I had a blast and have went to the track ever since. P.S. my local track went out of business along time ago because the lack of helping out other newbies come into the sport!! TAman
The first time I enteered a race I couldn't believe how bad, "my knees were shaking", so to speak . I was so nervous but all in the end I met some cools guys to hang with. They helped with any and all problems I had. If you're wondering how I finished, I got 3rd out of 10. Will McAlister South Carolina
I wasn't really thinking about anything on my first race. The only thing I was really thinking about was my friends car. His Diff nut was worn out and kept coming loose and I told him I would laugh really loud if his diff came lose and his car stopped. He was lucky and It stayed and he won first because my car motor was screwed up.
jeez. I was so freaked out. I was running an MRC MT10S with a midnight in It. I might have been making everyone around me mad because I was asking so many questions, I was 13 and I don't think anybody had any sympathy for me at all. After the second qualifier I felt a little better. And I ended up 2nd in the rookie class. I always get a little edgy but after the first lap I feel better, but now I am in the A-main every time too.
nervous/nothing
The first race I entered was a dirt oval race. I ran a Tamiya Superchamp with full bearings, a Thorp "dirtburner" differential, and "Holiday" buggy tires. The motor was a Kyosho 480T 26 turn single and I used a set of unmatched Sanyo 1200 SC NiCads charged with an automotive style battery charger. The speed controller was a Tekin 190 with an automotive style fuse and the radio was a Tower Hobbies 4 channel surface radio with twin sticks. I finished first in the B main and the whole rig cost me around $250. The last race I entered wasdverdirt off road race. I ran a T3 Team truck with full titanium and graphite options including top titanium transmission shaft, idler gear and lightened outdrives along with MIP aluminum dogbones. The motor was a Trinity Paradox and I used 4 sets of Ballistic Sanyo 2000s super high voltage spiked matched packs charged on a Tekin BC112A powerflex charger. The speed contoller was a Tekin G9 and the Radio was a Futaba 3PJ PCM. I finished 5th in the A mainand the wole rig cost me around $1200. There were 150 to 200 racers at my first race and 25 at my last race. Do you guys see a pattern here? [Associated responds: Our kits have not gone up in price in spite of all the enhancements!]
i was nervous then, i get nervous now
The first race I ever entered, well I don't know why but I was shaking so bad that the guy next to me asked me to stop shaking the drivers stand, I don't know why I got so nervous, I just did, now I get up there and it is routine, no nervousness.
My first race was a offroad race in 1990 and I was running my Tamiya Fox. I was so nervous because most of the other drivers had RC10's and Ultima's but I did fine for the first time. Now when I race I still get nervous in the main if its really competitive. Gromit
I went to my very first race ever last weekend, I'd only had my T3 for about a month and a half. I got a the track at two o'clock (the races start at five) because I had just broken my servo and I got a new one and a servo saver, I spent three hours installing it, and missed my first heat, by the time my second heat came up, which was the first time I had drove the track because I was installing my servo, I got second place(rookie class)!. The third heat I had to start back row, outside lane, and I got first and TQ'ed!! I then went on to win the A-Main!! Thank you so much for creating such a UNBEATABLE truck as the T3, in my opinion the best 1/10 scale 2wd off-road stadium truck in the world! TA is unstoppable!!!
I've only been racing for a year. And I still get nervis when I race. My firest race I found that I was in 3rd place in the main until my friend told me then I came in last but I still had fun.
I am 13 and I was nervous but then after the first qualifier I was ok. All the guys were nice and helpful. All you gotta do is ask. Two weeks later I was in second place overall. out of like 20 guys.
I remember my first time like if it was yesterday. This wasn't an official race but rather a parking lot one-on-one race with my friend. We used shopping carts as corners so it was difficult to see our own car as we turned. I remember as one of our friends started the countdown my heart was really pounding fast and hard because I didn't want to choke. Well the countdown came to an end and I shot out in front of my friend and I lead all through the first straightaway. As soon as we got to the first turn however I banked too early and skinned the shopping cart and that knocked my car out of direction. I steered and braked hard to my right and almost hit my friend but his reaction was quick enough to avoid a collision. He also braked, and steered around me and took a huge lead. When I finally got control of my car I was facing towards where I came from, so I had to bust a U-turn. By that time my friend was already cornering the second turn. I pegged the throttle hard and went after him. I was doing just fine until the second to the last corner. Again I was approaching the corner and banked too early and this time I hit the shopping cart head-on! My lexan shell, a Calsonic Skyline, had a huge dent on the front. The collision was so great the front of the shell was dented inward! I didn't notice this until I saw my car as it approached closer and closer as I finished my first lap. I stopped and "dented" it back into place and off I was once again. For the remainder of the race I banked better with more control and to my surprise eventually caught up with my friend. The last lap was brutal because both of us were really swapping paint. At the end my friend barely beat me. We stopped our cars and dicussed the race. We both agreed on it being a good race. We went on and raced three more races. In total we both won two times each. I remember as we packed our stuff into the van my heart was still pounding. N.A. loves K.A.
I felt kinda nervous & I hoped not to crash too many times!
