Cavalieri Claims Electric Offroad National Championship
For Team Associated

ARCOR Raceway

Event: ROAR Electric Offroad National Championship
Location: Albuquerque, NM
Dates: June 15-17, 2007
Website: www.arcorraceway.com

Synopsis:

For the second time in three years, ARCOR Raceway located in Albuquerque, NM, has played host for the ROAR Electric Offroad Championships. Maintained and ran by a local group of racers, the ARCOR facility was rented by the newly formed Race Management Team from ROAR. The purpose of this is to provide a consistent organization group for the ROAR Nationals that rotate across the country from track to track.

This year also marked the first time in many years that all electric offroad titles were up for grabs at one event. In years past the stock and 19-turn classes had their own event separate from the modified classes. As a step to embrace new technologies, ROAR also added a Li-Po/Brushless Truck class that allowed companies such as LRP to showcase their technology and the future of electric racing.

The ARCOR track has a unique surface that is hard as a rock, as coarse as sand paper and as hooked up as pavement. This unique surface challenged the top racers in the country to not only be patient, but smooth and in control at all times. A false input on the transmitter could result in catastrophic damage to the vehicles. Showing that they were there to win, Team Associated drivers Ryan Cavalieri and Jared Tebo took the TQ positions in the 2WD and 4WD Modified categories, respectively. Hot on their heals was teammate Ryan Maifield who qualified 2nd in 2WD and 3rd in 4WD.

In the Truck and 2WD Modified classes, Ryan Cavalieri needed only the first two mains to secure the National title for the second year in a row. Heading in to A3 of 4WD Cavalieri and Tebo were tied for the win with the winner of A3 taking the title. Again it was Cavalieri bringing home the gold to sweep the modified classes at the Nationals. It has been 7 years since a driver has accomplished this much-cherished feat.

In the Li-Po/Brushless Truck demonstration class, Team Associated driver Ryan Maifield drove a flawless race with his Factory Team T4 equipped with an LRP Sphere Competition ’07, LRP Vector X-11 6.5, and LRP Li-Po battery and brought home the title by over 2 laps in the 20-minute main event. Also taking victories for Associated were Kyle Boice (19T Truck), Bill Cook (Masters) and John Paul Richards (Juniors).

Congratulations to the new champions and especially to Ryan Cavalieri for sweeping the Nationals, something that hasn’t been done since his mentor Brian Kinwald did it in 2000.
