Rollout
is the another way to set a vehicle's gearing. This is not as precise as
other methods described on this site. It hard to get the CIRCUMFERENCE
accurate enough! But it is a good method. And it Works!
Because of these differences, you can't just put on the same pinion and
spur the fast guy is using. Rollout is defined as the number of inches a
vehicle moves forward per revolution of the motor. To figure your rollout
you will need to know the circumference of your rear tire, how many teeth
are on your pinion and spur, and what your transmission ratio is (usually
found in your manual). Then plug them into this equation:
TIRE CIRCUMFERENCE / TRANSMISSION RATIO / (SPUR / PINION)
Typical ranges are 1.12 to 1.48, but it really depends on the track, your batteries, motor, etc.
Here are some typical transmission ratios:
B2, B3, T3 --2.4
RC10T --2.25
XXT --2.61
Traxxas --2.72
LXT, JR2) --2.19
