Questions

My right rear A-Arm is not mountable because the the spur gear and transmission is too far over to the right. If I forced the A-Arm over it would rub against the spur gear tremendously.

I was wondering if you guys had any setup tips for running a dirt banked oval?

Do you have a covered receiver box for the old GT?

What's the tank insert for?

I've noticed fuel tubing around the brake and throttle linkages in pictures from magazines. What is the purpose?

When I run my truck it always runs until it has about 2/3 of a gas left then shuts off.

I found a way to set the toe in (or out) to zero degrees. Here's how I did it.

I have recently converted one of my rc10GTs to on road racing. I am using foam tyres on the car but the dia. of 70mm makes it to low geared for the straight. I would like to know what combination of spur gear and pinion gear I can fit to the car to give it a highest gear ratio possible or any combination to give a ratio of 3:1 through to 2.4:1.

My GT doesn't seem to have a smooth powerband. It's like I have full power as soon as I squeeze the throttle. When you get on the gas on pavement, it just wants to spinout. It doesn't take off in a straight line.

I don't think that I have set up my clutch properly. The fly wheel spins freely without me turning around the piston. It kind of wobbles too.

I need parts to get 0° toe-in.

I just purchased a used RC10GT with an OS12CV engine. Your tech help pages said that the low-end needle setting should be about 1 1/2 turns. When I run with that setting, I get virtually no smoke and a VERY hot engine. I have to go almost three turns out on the low-end needle before I see a good amount of smoke.

I run Dynamite 20% fuel with an O'Donnell head. What is a ball park temp to run the truck at?

I have been battling with a setup for a hard packed smooth track.

I am requesting the part numbers needed to convert the old RC10GT slipper clutch to the larger version on the T3/B3. I have the inner & outer hubs & disk.

I race on a tight bumpy track with a long straight away. There are a lot of low speed turns. How should I setup my suspension, caster, toe and camber?

My front shocks are stiffer than the rear. Why is it set up like that?

If the wheels spin in the same direction, is the diff too loose or too tight?

I'm starting to race my RC10GT on the street occasionally and was wondering what would be good springs to use.

I have an RC10GT and I want to know how I can setup my car for on-road without changing any parts. What suspensions setup should I run, what ride height, tires, etc.

When I run the car wide open full throttle the truck runs fine; if I take my finger off the throttle the truck slows down and spins out to the left.

On the back end of my friend's truck, we keep having problems unscrewing the rear wheel nuts. Anyway of fixing this problem?

Where do you suggest I mount a transponder so that the signal can clear the GT's aluminum chassis?

I have been trying to order a clutch spring for my RC10GT with a Dynamite engine.

If I put fuel tubing around the support bracket for the tuned pipe, will it mess up the tuned pipe's performance?

How can I tell if the the clutch pads in the bell housing are slipping, the differential is slipping, or the yellow clutch disc in the differential hubs are slipping as the car accelerates?

I've always had trouble with stripping (or melting?) the spur gears.

The pin that holds the axle to the CVD on my GT keeps coming out. I put locktite on the set screw but it doesn't hold the pin tight.

I own a tub GT and would like your recommendations on how to stiffen the chassis.

Is there an aftermarket 2-speed transmission available for the RC10GT? If so, what is the company name and what should I expect to pay?

My RC10GT will nose dive after coming off a big kicker jump and I was wondering if this is a shock problem.

What kinds of ground conditions will do harm to the truck such as stripping the spur gears?

34 Is there any way to tell when it's time to rebuild the differential?

35 Was wanting to know what would make my MIP CVD bone (#7379) keep popping out of my outdrive? Everything seems to be good and tight and it barely hangs in there then pops out. If I push my shocks all the way up, the bone don't even go in to the outdrive half way.

36 I would like to know if there is a 2 speed transmission available for my truck.

37 Will the Traxxas TRX 2.5R engine fit in the RC10GT?

38 What can I do to level my truck when jumping over tabletops, doubles and big jumps? The truck goes nose up.

39 What's the best steering servo for my car?

40 I tightened the GT rear diff screw. It worked for about 1 second then came loose again.

41 What brake disc are the Team drivers using for the GT?

42 What is a good amount of torque for a GT throttle servo?

43 What do you do about the GT brake linkage bending over time?

Answers

1 My right rear A-Arm is not mountable because the the spur gear and transmission is too far over to the right. If I forced the A-Arm over it would rub against the spur gear tremendously.

Check the pin that you installed into the top shaft and see if the seam of the pin is facing towards the transmission case. That puts the roundest part of the pin towards the inner torque clutch hub and the clutch hub will move a bit closer to the transmission. The question that I have is about your spur gear, is it a solid gear with two holes for the screws? If so, make sure you have the inset part facing the torque clutch.

2 I was wondering if you guys had any setup tips for running a dirt banked oval?

I have only had a couple people give me their setups for dirt oval, you can try them and then fine tune from there.

Setup #1
LF and RF 60weight oil and #3 pistons, Blue Springs #7429 on both and Red #7430 spring on the RF to tighten it up the front end.
LR and RR 45 weight oil and #1 pistons, Red spring #7436 on the LR and Green spring #6480 on RR.
10-degree front blocks #6212.
If the track surface is wet track change the right rear hub carrier to a 0 degree #7365 and on a Dry track 3 #7366 degree hub carrier.

Setup #2
LF 15 weight oil #1 piston with a Gold spring #7425
RF 45 weight oil #2 piston with a Red spring #7430
LR 30 weight oil #2 piston with Blue spring #7434
RR 60 weight oil #3 piston with Gold spring #7435

3 Do you have a covered receiver box?

No, but see if Trinity has one: part #RC5069.

4 What's the tank insert for?

The tank insert is used to decrease the tank volume from 78cc to 75cc, which is required under IFMAR rules in Europe.

5 I've noticed fuel tubing around the brake and throttle linkages in pictures from magazines. What is the purpose?

They are putting it on the linkage to help prevent anything from vibrating. When parts vibrate metal to metal they can create a harmonic frequency that can cause radio interference.

6 When I run my truck it always runs until it has about 2/3 of a gas left then shuts off.

Check the line running from the pipe to the tank to see that you have no cracks or air leaks. Also make sure that you have the loop of at least 6 inches before it goes to the tank.

7 I found a way to set the toe in (or out) to zero degrees.

Here's how I did it:
Remove all wheels.
Take a straight edge. I used a 4 ft level.
If you lay it against the front of the car it hits the two hinge pins holding the front A arms on.
Then can then turn your radio and receiver on, centering your servo.
Measure from the straight edge to the center of the threads on your front shafts, compare both sides and adjust your turn buckles until the measurements are the same. If the front shafts are aligned with the straight edge you have zero toe in. If they are on an angle you will either have toe
in or out depending on there angle.
Since I wanted 0 degrees I stopped there.
Well that's how I did it. My truck runs straight as an arrow now with the servo adjustments on the radio set at dead center. (by Rob S.)

Use the same spur gear and go to a 16 tooth clutch bell and that should give you back your speed. Part number 7606.

9 My GT doesn't seem to have a smooth powerband. It's like I have full power as soon as I squeeze the throttle. When you get on the gas on pavement, it just wants to spinout. It doesn't take off in a straight line.

It sounds like the truck might need more toe in. What you can do is purchase some hub carriers that have more toe in. This will help increase the traction of the truck when getting on the gas out of corners. A lot of the team drivers do this and it seems to work well for them. The part number for the hub carriers is #6366 and you will need 3/16 x 3/8 flanged bearings for these new hub carriers.

10 I don't think that I have set up my clutch properly. The fly wheel spins freely without me turning around the piston. It kind of wobbles too.

Make sure that you have the right clutch nut on there and it is tight. Also make sure that you have the collet on before tightening down the flywheel.

11 I need parts to get 0° toe-in.

To get 0° of toe-in, simply reverse the #7358 hub carriers. Their 3° toe-out will cancel the arm mount's 3° toe-in. For more info like this, get the Complete Tuning Guide: GT. #7193, $3.95.

12 I just purchased a used RC10GT with an OS12CV engine. Your tech help pages said that the low-end needle setting should be about 1 1/2 turns. When I run with that setting, I get virtually no smoke and a VERY hot engine. I have to go almost three turns out on the low-end needle before I see a good amount of smoke. I'm worried that I'm destroying my newly-rebuilt engine.

The settings that we have may vary from engine to engine. The best way to properly break in your engine is to run your engine making sure that there is plenty of smoke. Also if you have a temp gauge when you break in your engine this is a great tool to have. When the engine is at proper running temperature it should be about 200 - 220 degrees F. If you have to turn your adjustment screws differently than what we suggest its ok as long as the end result is the same. The engine should blow smoke on bottom and a little on top end. Again if you temp gauge it will make it easier to tune.

13 I run Dynamite 20% fuel with an O'Donnell head. What is a ball park temp to run the truck at?

A good temp to run at is around 220 deg F.

14 I have been battling with a setup for a hard packed smooth track for a long time.

Here is the hard packed smooth track setup for the GT
Front:
35 w oil
#1 pistons
1 thin limiter inside the shocks
Silver front springs
Shocks mounted on the outside hole on the tower and outside hole on the arm
30 dig. caster blocks
Front ride height - arms level
-1 deg. of camber
0 deg toe-in

Rear:
30 w oil
#1 pistons
no limiters in the shocks
Green rear springs
Shocks mounted in the upper inside hole in the shock tower and outside hole
in the arm.
1.5 deg hub carriers
hubs in the forward position
Rear ride height - Universals level
-2 deg. camber
Camber link in the upper inside hole

Clutch:
Associated 4 shoe racing clutch
Shoes are cut 1 1/2 holes from the pivot hole in the shoe

Gearing:
15 tooth clutch bell
66 spur

Fuel:
10 or 20 %

15 I am requesting the part numbers needed to convert the old RC10GT slipper clutch to the larger version on the T3/B3. I have the inner & outer hubs & disk.

The part numbers you need in order to convert your slipper to the new
style are:
the inner slipper #9251
outer slipper #9252
slipper pad #9253
the bushing #6599

16 I race on a tight bumpy track with a long straight away. There are a lot of low speed turns. How should I setup my suspension, caster, toe and camber?

For starters:
FRONT: Green springs, 30wt oil, 2 thin spacers inside shocks, front arms level (ride height), -2 deg. camber, 30 deg. caster blocks.
REAR: Green springs, 30wt oil, 0 deg. spacers in shocks, rear universals level, -2 deg. camber, 1.5 deg. hub carriers.

17 My front shocks are stiffer than the rear. Why is it set up like that?

The front shocks should be a little stiffer than the rear shocks because the front shocks are mounted in the middle of the arm, and the rear shocks are mounted toward the outside.

18 If the wheels spin in the same direction, is the diff too loose or too tight?

The diff is too tight.

19 I'm starting to race my RC10GT on the street occasionally and was wondering what would be good springs to use.

If you want to run on the street you will need to use a heavier shock oil and a stiffer shock spring. I would use #3 pistons in front and #2 pistons in the rear with 40 weight oil and gold spring to start.

20 I have an RC10GT and I want to know how I can setup my car for on-road without changing any parts. What suspensions setup should I run, what ride height, tires, etc.

If you are looking for improved performance on the street then run heavier oil and springs. If you go to a smaller diameter street tire you will have to consider changing your gearing so that you will get the same speed and performance that you are used to when running off road.

21 When I run the car wide open full throttle the truck runs fine; if I take my finger off the throttle the truck slows down and spins out to the left.

It sounds like you have too much drag brake dialed into it. This will cause your truck to spin out. Try turning out the brake adjusting nut until the truck slowly comes to a stop without spinning out.

22 On the back end of my friend's truck, we keep having problems unscrewing the rear wheel nuts. Anyway of fixing this problem?

Try new locknuts, or try putting the one you have on backwards. This usually works.

23 Where do you suggest I mount a transponder so that the signal can clear the GT's aluminum chassis?

Mount the transponder right behind the hood scoop of the body. This is where most of the Team drivers put theirs.

24 I have been trying to order a clutch spring for my RC10GT with a Dynamite engine.

We no longer make springs for the clutches. They are not necessary for them to work correctly.

25 If I put fuel tubing around the support bracket for the tuned pipe, will it mess up the tuned pipe's performance?

No, it will not reduce the performance of the pipe, it will just help get rid of an annoying vibration that can drive you crazy!

26 How can I tell if the the clutch pads in the bell housing are slipping, the differential is slipping, or the yellow clutch disc in the differential hubs are slipping as the car accelerates?

To make sure the clutch isn’t slipping, check the color of the clutch bell. If the clutch bell is a blue color then this means your clutch is slipping. If it is not discolored then it is not slipping.
To check your diff: it’s best to do this when your transmission is apart. Take your diff and insert two wrenches into each of the out drives, then hold them and try and turn the diff gear. If the diff gear turns then it is too loose. Slowly tighten the diff until you can no longer spin the diff gear.
Once your clutch and diff is adjusted properly, your next adjustment will be the slipper clutch. Start with the nut flush with the end of the drive shaft. Then slowly tighten it to how you want your truck to accelerate. Personally I lock mine and let the clutch on the motor do the slipping.

27 I've always had trouble with stripping (or melting?) the spur gears.

I have heard of people melting their spur gears similarly to what you have been saying. Usually their brakes are dragging during acceleration which will cause the spur gear to heat up slightly. Also another thing to look for is to make sure the transmission spins freely. The last thing to look for is to make sure that your clutch is engaging properly. Sometimes if the clutch slips repeatedly it will cause your clutch bell to get hot which your spur gear rides on. Check to make sure your slipper is tight.

28 The pin that holds the axle to the CVD on my GT keeps coming out. I put locktite on the set screw but it doesn't hold the pin tight.

Go to a hardware store and purchase some red locktite. This locktite is like glue except you can get it out when you want to.

29 I own a tub GT and would like your recommendations on how to stiffen the chassis.

Purchase our GT upgrade kit.

30 Is there an aftermarket 2-speed transmission available for the RC10GT? If so, what is the company name and what should I expect to pay?

Unfortunately you cannot fit a two speed onto the GT or RC10NDS. The chassis gets in the way.

31 My RC10GT will nose dive after coming off a big kicker jump and I was wondering if this is a shock problem.

Some jumps are too abrupt so you have to approach them differently. Try letting off the throttle about 6 to 8 feet before the jump, then applying the throttle just before you hit the jump. This will make sure the weight transfers to the rear so it should help the truck jump the way you want. Make sure the back of the truck is not hitting the jump. This will cause the weight to shift back to the front and allow it to nose down. If it is hitting you can normally solve this by slightly raising the rear ride height. Also make sure you do not let off quickly on the throttle as you are going up the jump or just after you come off. If you have more than a little drag brake setup into the throttle when you come off the jump the tires stopping quickly will allow the nose to pull down. To help prevent this be sure to let off the throttle slowly after you are in the air.

32 What kinds of ground conditions will do harm to the truck such as stripping the spur gears?

Running on grass will put the most stress on the gears because of the high traction, but it still should not strip the gears.

33 How would you rebuild a shock?

You would replace the inner shock parts with new ones and replace the oil.

34 Is there any way to tell when it's time to rebuild the differential?

If the diff feels gritty then it is time to rebuild the diff. Usually requires changing the diff balls, rings, and thrust bearing assembly.

35 Was wanting to know what would make my MIP CVD bone (#7379) keep popping out of my outdrive? Everything seems to be good and tight and it barely hangs in there then pops out. If I push my shocks all the way up, the bone don't even go in to the outdrive half way.

Make sure that you have 1-2 degrees of negative camber. Negative camber means that the tire leans inward at the top. Positive camber means that the tire leans outward at the top. Positive camber should not be used.

36 I would like to know if there is a 2 speed transmission available for my truck.

No two speed is available for the GT truck.

37 Will the Traxxas TRX 2.5R engine fit in the RC10GT?

These instructions are from a GT owner:

I put the TRX 2.5 engine on my RC and the only modifications I had to make was I had to turn the throttle servo around.
Then I got some linkage rod and cut and adjusted the throttle linkage.
You also need to switch the throttle on the controller to channel 2.
I used the stock motor mount but you need to use the trx2.5 flywheel and clutch bell that would be the same as the Revo set up.
Slide the motor mount all the way back so this set up will work.
You will need to end up getting another spur gear to give you more slack on the motor mount adjustment. It is a little too close--just be sure to slide the motor mount as far back as you can.
If anyone uses this setup, hang on to your hat because it will get up and go!

38 What can I do to level my truck when jumping over tabletops, doubles and big jumps? The truck goes nose up.

When you are in the air, try backing off the throttle a little more or completely. This will bring the nose back down.

39 What's the best steering servo for my car?

You should choose a servo with at least 60 oz. inches of torque.

40 I tightened the GT rear diff screw. It worked for about 1 second then came loose again.

You may have a stripped diff lock nut #6575. Make sure that the diff adjustment bolt is on the passenger side of the truck.

41 What brake disc are the Team drivers using for the GT?

Just the stock disk that comes with the kit.

42 What is a good amount of torque for a GT throttle servo?

Anything with 60 oz. or more.

43 What do you do about the GT brake linkage bending over time?

You can purchase a slightly thicker wire from your hobby store and bend it as needed. You can also purchase another brake linkage kit as needed.
