1 How fast does the RC18T go? how fast does the "Reedy mini-max" modified motor go?

The stock vehicle out of the box will have a top speed in the area of about 20 mph. The Reedy modified motor will be slightly faster than the stock motor.

How do I reset the ESC?

-Press the set up button on the speed control until the light begins to blink then release.
-Now press and release the set up button one more time.
-Pull and hold the trigger in the full throttle position then press & release the set up button one time.
-Push and hold the trigger in the full brake position and press & release the set up button one time.
-Your speed control should now be programmed.

I like the RC18 but the gravel/rocks that get into the gears is killing my fun.

You can contact DP at www.drivenpro.net.

The first ever pull of the throttle, I got a high pitch squeal and not much go. What do you think the problem could be?

Check the differentials for proper tightness. Also check and make sure that the pinion spur mesh is not too tight. There should be a small amount of play between the gears.

Can you suggest a pinion/spur size when running a 7-cell battery pack?

Drop one tooth on the pinion.

My steering is constantly going out of alignment. I'm adjusting it with trim control on transmitter every 2 seconds.

You can try and add an O-ring around the servo saver. This will tighten the steering up and not make it as sloppy. However, your protection for the servo in the event of a crash will be greatly diminished.

What is the clicking noise when I throttle it?

It sounds like it could be your rear diff slipping against the input gear.

Does anyone make part #21022 input & diff gear in a harder material than the current nylon? I am continually stripping the nylon gears.

I am not aware of anybody that does. You may want to try a set of the #21141 diff shims. This will push the diff closer to the input gear and possibly stop your gear stripping problems.

The Parma buggy body is a direct fit for the 18T.

Thanks for the info!

Do I have to change the stock motor mount on my 18B if I buy a Reedy Mini-MOD motor?

The Reedy will fit with the stock motor mount. You'll need to change the motor mounting screws to #21136.

I purchased a charger from my hobby store and they told me I should charge the stock 18B battery at 1A. Is there any reason this battery cannot be charged at 2A? Will it charge faster?

You can charge the battery faster, but anytime you do you will shorten the life of the pack and risk possible damage.

When racing my buggy on gravel, I heard a clicking noise. I immediately stopped and examined the car. I blew off the gears, wheels and axels. It sounds okay now...but different. The electric whine isn't quite the same.

This is normal as we experience this same noise when running on loose gravel. You did right by blowing the gears off. You can inspect the gears for any small rocks that may still be lodged in the spur gear. It may sound a little different but it does not affect the performance of the vehicle.

Is it safe to run this on damp (not wet) pavement?

It's never safe when water is around, no matter how little it is.

I have recently bought a Reedy Motor for the RC18T. On the packaging the motor says direct replacement for standard AE motor. But I cannot get the motor screws to fit into the motor, and have had to use the screws that go into the underside of the motor mount.

Although the motor is a direct replacement, different screws are needed: 2.5mm screws. The number for the screws are #21136.

The 18T back keeps on spinning out when I turn.

You can try a softer spring and/or oil.

While driving forward the truck will just stop for no reason. I have to go into reverse before I can make the truck go forward again. I have tried resetting the speed control many times.

Make sure that your throttle-reversing switch is set to the normal position. Then reset your speed control once again.

As soon as I land a jump I hear a grinding sound for like 2 seconds. I have tightened my pinion and spur gearing really tight. What is wrong?

It sounds like the input and ring gear are slipping. Part number #21141 are additional shims that you can add to the diff to move it closer to the input gear.

How do I put the outdrive sleeves on??

You just slide them over the outdrive and secure them with a little bit of Shoo Goo, available at any hardware store.

What is the best ESC to use as I am using the Spektrum DX3 radio and it will not work with the factory ESC. I am looking at one of the LRP units.

The LRP Quantum Reverse 2 is a great speed control for that application. The part number is #LRP84110.

After running with my Mamba, the differential have loosened. I tighten them and on having run again they have loosened again.

With that much power, the diff screw may have stripped out or simply is not able to hold the power that the Mamba produces.

What would the advantage be using a quantum 2 comp micro speed control vs. the factory XPS unit? I am planning on running 7 cells with a mod motor.

The Quantum speed control will be smoother and has what LRP calls traction control.

The problem is that it has no reverse, it seems to have stronger braking then the other one, but no reverse. I noticed in the specs on this site that it has a forward only racing mode, but I couldn't find out how you select or unselect this feature.

OK, to unselect and go back to reverse simply do the following. Hold the setup button down as you turn the vehicle on. There--you are done.

I have an FT 18T with a Mamba brushless. when I am at half throttle and then I punch it, the truck spins out. I am running slicks for on the road.

It sounds as if the front diff is too loose and so all the torque goes to mainly the rear end and removes rear traction, spinning the vehicle out.

Can I run a Reedy Mini-Mod on the factory speed control and run it on a 7 cell 1100 pack?

Yes you can.

I just received my RC18T but when I put it to charge with the given battery pack an error message comes after, like, 1 min: "Warning battery voltage too low." I had also purchased another Reedy pack for the 18T and that charges without any problems. What is wrong?

The battery might have been discharged to an dead state. Put the battery on the standard battery charger and leave it there overnight. This should wake the battery up and allow you to charge it on your Reedy charger.

How do I adjust the steering to center? Out of the box they steer slightly to the right.

You can adjust the steering trim on the transmitter to get your model to go straight.

How can you get the shocks to stop leaking oil?

It sounds as if you have too much oil in the shocks. Rebuild the shocks with slightly less oil.

What aftermarket ESC will work with my RC18MT?

As long as you have the space, virtually any aftermarket speed control will work for you.

What is the charge and discharge rate for both race packs?

You can charge them at 1 amp and discharge at no more than 10 amps.

I have a std uk kit that was supplied with a super 370 motor. Can this be used with the LRP 75235 battery pack 1200/ 8.2v?

Yes, the speed control will handle 6-7 cell battery packs. 7.2-8.4volts.

After cleaning the grease from the ball bearings, is there a oil that you would recommend for oiling the bearing?

I would use good lightweight oil. I think Trinity makes good oil called Royal Oil for bearings.

I'm experimenting winding motors for the mini (after doing 540 type motors) and I'm wondering what is the motor limit of the stock ESC (XPS) so I don't screw up anything? I'll be using 280/370 motors on the ESC.

The motor limit for the XPS is 16 turns.

What are the sizes of the spur and pinion on the rc18B?

The size of the gears are what are commonly referred to as .5 module.

Can a Mini-max motor accept the LRP 7-cell pack, and will it make it go faster?

Adding more cells (voltage) to an electric motor will increase the speed of the motor. In the case of the Mini Max motor you can run 7 cells.

Debris got in between the pinion and spur gears. Several minutes later it happened again.

My only suggestion to you is that you may want to make a couple small holes in the spur gear cover. This will allow small debris to fall out and lessen the chance of it getting caught in the gear.

If I replace the drive shafts with CVDs, do I still need to use the springs?

No, the CVDs do not require the use of the springs.

Where can I get a charger for the controller that comes with the RC18T?

You can get one from your hobby dealer. Check your local hobby shop for pricing.

When the battery gets low, I have no steering or throttle control over it.

When the battery runs down you can lose control of the model, as there is not enough power for the servos. When you notice the speed getting slower, stop and recharge.

I have worn out my tires in less than a week. I tend to drive in parking lots more than dirt and was wondering if you offer a set of mounted street tires that may last longer.

Try part number #21068 foam tires.

My controller keeps beeping and it does not work. I have changed the batteries and it still doesn't work!

Please go to www.rc10.com and click on News > Announcements. Scroll down to the link on the radio beeping.

My 18T has a turn to it and I can't get it to go away. My trim is set at all the way left but my tires look like something is bent.

Take the servo arm off the servo and reset your trim. Then re-install your servo arm.

I put in a mamba brushless with 8000 rpm per volt, Deans connectors with a Reedy Mini Max battery pack. Is there a way to determine top speed without radar?

You can't define speeds by the addition of particular components. Only when the rubber meets the road does the true speed emerge--which is measured accurately by a speed gun.

What are some signs of a properly adjusted diff?

Make sure the ring gear does not slip when the two outdrives are held.

What is the best spur and pinion combo for 18MT running a Reedy motor?

Spur 60 teeth and 12 pinion is a good place to start.

How do I find a better way to charge the batteries than a 10hr charger. Can I use a peak charger ?

You can use a peak charger. Make sure that it has the capability to charge at 1 amp and is Ni-MH compatible.

I upgraded to the Reedy motor and now both my differential gears have been chewed up.

You may want to purchase part number #21141 shim kit. This will allow you to shim the diff closer to the input gear. This will slow down the process of wearing out gears.

I have an 18T and I bought the 18MT tires for it. I also have installed shock accessories for it. It flips with the accessories on and off.

Well, you have a higher vehicle now, which will tend to roll over in fast sharp turns. You can try and add a little more camber to the wheels.

Can a capacitor be installed on the speed control without harming it and make it more efficient? I have one that's 680uF 16V. If that one isn't good, can you recommend one that is?

The speed control does not require an external capacitor be installed. So we do not recommend you doing it.

Is it true that you need to buy a heat sink for the motor or it will die? I heard this in a review and was wondering if it was true or not.

No, heat sinks are not necessary to run the 18T.

How do I gear my mini with Reedy mini motors?

We recommend these Reedy motors and gearing:

18T/18B                                          Recommended gearing

#21210   Stock 370 motor             14/60
#290     SP-19 motor                 14/60
#291     17 turn Mini Mod            12/60
#292     19 turn Mini Mod            13/60

18MT                                                Recommended gearing

#21210   Stock 370 motor             10/60
#290     SP-19 motor                 10/60
#291     17 turn Mini Mod            NOT RECOMMENDED FOR MT
#292     19 turn Mini Mod            NOT RECOMMENDED FOR MT

I am having problems changing the brushes on my 18MT stock motor.

You cannot take the brushes out of the stock RTR motor in your 18MT. The whole motor will need to be replaced when it is worn out. If you get our #290 motor as a replacement then you will see that the brushes are easily replaced.

Could you elaborate on the location of the dirt deflectors on the 18B body?

OK, on the side of the body you have some air intakes. If you cut them out then you can put the side deflectors on the side of the body right in front of the intakes.

Which body size will fit a RC18: 140mm or 150 mm? My question is because of tire hole fit.

Our 1:18 scale vehicles are closer to a 150mm body.

What do you recommend for an 18B upgrade motor? I would like to use the stock esc and servo if possible. I would like a little more take off power and top speed but don't want to go crazy with it.

Consider the Reedy mini Mod 19 or 17 turn motors. You will notice a good increase in performance over the stock motor.

How do I keep the outdrive sleeves from sliding off the outdrive when driving the buggy?

The best way that we have found is to place a very small drop of thin CA (super glue) on the outer edge of the sleeve and outdrive. When the time comes to replace the worn out outdrives you will also need to replace the sleeves with new ones as the CA glue is permanent. Or you can use some Shoo Goo (available at Target, Wal-Mart and home improvement stores) this will still allow you to reuse the sleeves when it comes time to rebuild the differential.

Do we need to glue the pre mounted MT tires (part# 21065)?

Yes.

Every time I slam on the throttle the truck spins out. How do I adjust the diff?

Make sure that your front diff is slightly tighter than the rear diff.
