Myron's TC6.2 takes VTA at the Christmas Shootout

This past Sunday CICR (Columbus Indiana Carpet Racing) held its Christmas Shootout On-road event. The track features 40 x 84' CRC Fasttrak carpet, MyLaps scoring, raised driver platform, comfortable pit spots, friendly staff, as well as an onsite hobby shop with snack bar. The event attracted racers from all over the region. The layout and traction was great. The racers were friendly and very helpful. This being my first time visiting CICR, I was very impressed by everything they had to offer. This made two weekends in a row to travel outside my home track and state to support new events that have emerged. It also was a good opportunity to showcase new Team Associated/Reedy products that are being released.

The racing was very good and clean. I knew or have raced with several of the racers from other tracks across the country. And the driver courtesy was A+ for all classes which included USVTA, USGT, 17.5 TC, and 1:12 scale.

I entered the event with my primary classes fresh off the Ho-b Max event from the previous weekend in NC. My TC6.2s were the cars to beat there, and I expected no less here. After some minor changes to my setup during practice, I was able to secure A-Main spots in VTA and GT after three rounds of qualifying. I knew in order to be able to pull a win I would need a mistake-free run. In USGT I started second on the grid behind J. Ward, who was red hot in GT this year grabbing titles all over the US, including the USVTA Southern Nationals. After 8 minutes of chasing I was unable to pressure him to make a mistake, so I settled in to a second-place finish.

In VTA (Vintage Trans Am), I managed to secure a third spot on the grid. Determined to make a perfect run, I saw very small and rare chances to push up past cars 1 and 2 ... then about halfway I was able to make a few moves to finally grab the number 1 position and it was mistake-free the rest of the race to bring home the win.
