Chad Due Short Course Motorama Champion

Motorama 2016, held in Harrisburg, PA, is a unique event incorporating several forms of racing, giving the RC community an opportunity to show off our sport to thousands of spectators. The other unique part of this race is that the track is not part of a permanent facility. Therefore, each year the racing surface is very different than the year before. This year was no exception. With the clay track material being brought into the Motorama facility late, the track crew had to work hard to prepare the surface. The surface ultimately was very bumpy with low grip.

The event this year started on Friday with two rounds of controlled practice by heats. This was immediately followed by one round of qualifying in the afternoon. This meant there was very little time to get your cars ready for what would be one of the most challenging racing surfaces I have run on in some time. On Saturday the event continued with two more rounds of qualifying, with the event concluding on Sunday. Sunday's proceedings incorporated double lower mains and triple A mains.

Right from the start, Due's vehicles worked very well. As qualifying progressed and came to a close on Saturday afternoon, Due was able to TQ all three rounds of SCT with his Reedy-powered SC5M and started on pole for the triple A Mains. The track was still very inconsistent and this meant that just being in the main event meant you had a chance to win. In SCT, Due won the first A Main, but not by much. There was a very close battle with Team Associated/Reedy teammate Christian Toic from start to finish. With a chance to seal the overall title in A2, Due made some racing mistakes that allowed Christian through for the win in A2. In A3 Due was able to get a good jump on Christian as a small mistake meant he had to battle with traffic, leaving Due clear to win A3 and take the overall in Modified SCT.
