Cavalieri Wins Psycho Pro Truggy Main With His RC8T3

The Psycho Nitro Blast is one of the top races on the east coast and has become one of the most highly attended events in the world. With over 820 entries in 11 classes, racing was scheduled for all hours of the day. Friday began 24 hours of straight practice for drivers to dial in their vehicles. With a new location and new dirt for 2016, the drivers were challenged to find the setup for a new and unique racing surface.

As qualifying got underway on Saturday morning, it was the RC8T3 and RC8B3e of Team Associated's Ryan Cavalieri that jumped to the top of the qualifying sheets in 1:8 Pro Truggy and 1:8 Pro Electric Buggy. Starting first in both classes, Cavalieri was joined by teammates Spencer Rivkin, Blake Boggs, Michael Paige, Brandon Melton, and Blake Picket, who also all made the A Main at the event for Team Associated.

In 1:8 Pro Truggy, Cavalieri made a mistake on lap 3 that shuffled him back to second place, where he remained for the next 20 minutes. With only five laps left in the main event, Cavalieri buckled down and regained the lead, which he wouldn't relinquish for the rest of the main event.

In the 1:8 Pro eBuggy main, Cavalieri had a terrible first lap that saw him cross lap 1 in 18th place, effectively taking him out of contention for the win. A benefactor of the first few laps was teammate Spencer Rivkin, who worked his way to second place with this Reedy-powered RC8B3e, where he stalked the leader for six minutes until taking over the lead. With just a few laps remaining, Rivkin made a small bobble that caused him to relinquish the lead and fall to second where he would finish overall -- still a respectable position.
