Hohwart Takes Win at CTS Round 3!

Round 3 of the 2016 California Touring Series visited Speedworld Raceway in Roseville, California. The well-known track, just east of state capitol Sacramento, has previously hosted the ROAR Nationals and Reedy Race of Champions, making it a natural selection for inclusion in the inaugural CTS season.

Point leader Rick Hohwart was hoping to extend his lead heading into the mid-season break and build momentum for the upcoming Reedy Race of Champions. Rick's Reedy-powered TC7 showed early speed in practice but a mistake in round one cost him the early TQ.

A slower track in the second and third qualifying rounds prevented Rick from challenging the TQ time, although he did set the fastest time in each of these rounds. Race one (Stockton) winner Brandon Clements sat on the pole position with Rick in second and race two (Ripon) winner Eric Albano on the grid in third.

The main event saw Brandon and Rick gap the field and battle head-to-head for the win. Eventually, Rick got past Brandon and never looked back to take the win and extend his points lead. A late charge by Albano netted him second place, with Brandon rounding out the podium in third.

The series now heads north to P1 Hobbies Raceway in Ukiah in June where the top drivers in California will meet again. Special thanks to Lex Tyler and Billy Bowerman for conducting a great event and to Speedworld Hobbies for providing the world-class racing facility!
