Three Wins for Team Associated at the JBRL Round 3

Wednesday, Jun 8, 2016 at 12:00am UTC

The third round of the JBRL Nitro Series was held at one of Southern California's best-known 1:8-scale tracks, Revelation Raceway. The weather was nearly into the triple digits, but that didn't stop Team Associated drivers Kody Numedahl, Dayton Brown, Jeff Guest, Jake Mayo, Nick Miller, and Nick Wautlet from dominating the buggy classes.

First up in the day was Expert Buggy. Kody Numedahl led the team of RC8B3s from the third spot, with Dayton Brown just behind him in fourth. Jeff Guest and Jake Mayo accompanied them in the sixth and eleventh spots. At the sound of the tone, Cody King led the field with Jeremy Kortz, Numedahl, and Brown in tow. Toward the end of the race, both King and Dayton stretched out their lead and separated themselves from the rest. With just over 2 minutes to go, Brown pressured King for the race lead, causing him to bobble and give Brown the lead. King tried to go after Brown, but Brown was running too quick and smooth and he took the win in Expert Buggy. Guest battled to the third and final spot on the podium, with Numedahl and Mayo finishing fifth and eighth after some rough luck.

Next came the E-Buggy class. Mayo and his RC8B3e was the pair to beat all day. Jeff Guest and Brown started in the second and tenth spots. At the start, Mayo led a few laps but made a couple of mistakes, putting him back to third and putting Guest out front. Meanwhile, Mayo and Brown were both battling their way to the front. Just around the 8-minute mark Guest had an issue and was not able to continue. This gave Mayo the lead, followed by Brown, who had battled all the way up through the pack to finish only two seconds behind Mayo!

Lastly, we had the Intermediate Buggy class. Nick Miller, new on the Team Associated race team, put himself on the second spot for the 20-minute A-Main event. Nick Wautlet won the B Main after a rough day in qualifying and started on the 11th spot. From the tone, Miller showed that he had the speed and determination to win the main by taking the lead within the first lap of the main. From there, Miller began to stretch out his lead and cruised to his first-ever Nitro Buggy victory. Wautlet made it up to the fourth spot after the 20 minutes were up.

Team Associated and Reedy would like to thank Jimmy Babcock and his crew for putting on yet another great round of the JBRL series. We would also like to thank the staff at Revelation for keeping the program and watering schedule as consistent as possible with the high temperatures. We will see you at the next one!
