Shay wins Pro Buggy with his RC8B3 at SOS Round 1

This past weekend the first round of the Southern Offroad Series was held at Henry County Remote Control Racing (HCRCR) in McDonough, GA. The race brought in drivers from all over the southeast, reaching a grand total of 195 entries for the one-day event. The traction was awesome all weekend long, and led to some really close racing.

I ran in the Pro Buggy and Pro Truggy classes for the event. I wasn't able to get a lot of practice in on Friday, so Saturday morning was spent trying to get the cars ready for racing. Qualifying was close throughout the day, and in the end I was able to qualify third overall in Pro Truggy and get the TQ in Pro Buggy.

The 20-minute Pro Truggy race was first, and my truck was good during the main. I was running in a solid second position, with a good cushion on third. But with about two minutes left in the race a mechanical issue caused me to retire from the race early.

The Pro Buggy race was next, and it was sure to be a good race. A mistake on the first lap put me about mid-pack coming back around to the loop, and I had to put my head down and run my lines. I was able to make my way back to the front, and had some really good racing with Eddie Cordoba and Chandler Elliot. I came away with the win at the end of the 20-minute A-Main event.

Overall, it was a good weekend spent with some great people. Thanks to all of my sponsors -- I wouldn't be able to do what I do without all of your help and support.
