The 2016 R.O.A.R. 1:8 Electric Off-Road National Championship was hosted by the very popular Midwest facility, Stateline R/C Raceway, that lies right on the border of Indiana and Michigan. With plans to wet the track every heat, the race was a throwback to traditional off-road racing. As practice got underway, the track evolved and developed some character that challenged line selection and driving skill.

After four rounds of qualifying, Team Associated/Reedy's Spencer Rivkin was constantly at the top of the heat sheets and qualified fourth overall for the A-Main event. With rain imminent for Sunday, R.O.A.R. officials decided to run A1 on Saturday night. This turned out to be the correct ruling as racing was canceled on Sunday due to unsafe marshaling conditions.

In A1 on Saturday night, Spencer got off to a good start and stayed towards the front of the pack. When the opportunity presented itself, Rivkin shot to the lead and never looked back. At the time, no one knew if this was going to be the only main, but Rivkin's win put him in a good position. With overnight rain and morning showers on Sunday, R.O.A.R. officials called the event complete and Rivkin was declared the 2016 1:8 Electric Truck National Champion.

Thanks to the Stateline R/C crew for all their efforts and for the Midwest hospitality during a challenging week of events.
