Yli Wins 13.5 in Lahti!

The FinTrack Tour national series last weekend in the city of Lahti was part of the hobby and craft expo at the Lahti Fair Centre. Nearly 10,000 visitors attended the two-day fair, with many stopping by the racetrack to witness the intense racing action. The prestigious Lahti Touring Car Challenge served as round one of the 7-race FinTrack Tour to determine the champions of Finland.

110 drivers in the entry list were greeted by the huge 30 x 18m track with fresh ETS style carpet. This surface was new to most participants and presented a challenge that was not easily mastered.

In the 13.5 Prostock class, Reedy factory driver Vesa Yli took to the circuit like a fish to water and set the fastest time in two of the four qualifying rounds to grab the pole position for the main event. Fastest in the other two rounds, Markus Afelt and Reedy-powered Kalle Lehto started second and third respectively.

Vesa took advantage of his pole position start and dominated the final by taking wire-to-wire wins in all three main events to claim the prestigious title and the early lead in the championship. Lehto scored enough points to capture second place, with Markus coming home third.

The LTCC King prize was awarded to Kalle Lehto for scoring the best combined finishes in the 13.5 and modified classes, with Vesa Yli finishing second and Markus in third.

The FinTrack Tour national series will continue in four weeks in northern Finland in the city of Oulu followed by other two indoor nationals and three outdoor nationals during summer in 2017. Stay tuned!
