Munday and Zammit win Victorian State titles

Team Associated / Reedy factory drivers Ray Munday and Cameron Zammit have taken the 2WD and 4WD Modified classes at the 2017 Victorian State titles with their Reedy-powered B6D and B64D buggies. Held at the famous red clay track in the regional town of Wodonga, the event was a re-run after the first date in August was rained out. Racers were treated to a fantastic blue-groove surface on the bumpy but flowing outdoor track, with sunny weather for practice and 4WD day, but rain on 2WD day, which kept everyone on their toes chasing the perfect setup.

4WD Mod
Munday took TQ from Zammit, but in the finals, 'CamZam' proved too strong, taking A1 and A3 to defend his title from 2016. Cam was also pushed hard by AE racer Andrew Selvaggi. The result was only decided in the last couple of laps of A3.

2WD Mod
Munday also took TQ in 2WD with his B6D, with Selvaggi third. In A1 it started raining, making conditions slippery, but Munday took the win with Andrew holding onto his podium place. Unfortunately, the rain came down harder after A1, so the event was called based on the results of this single final.

Junior Modified
AE's Junior Modified racers Jordan Isergin (12 years old) and Lachlan Munday (11 years old) showed they will be at the top podium step soon, Jordan qualifying fourth in 4WD Mod and Lachlan qualifying fourth in 2WD Mod and finishing fourth in 4WD Mod.

Other classes
AE wasn't victorious only in the Modified Buggy classes. In the Junior class (under 16 2WD 17.5T), the top three racers were using AE buggies, with Brian Lawrence taking TQ and the win from his brother Shane, and Nathan Facciol finishing a close 3rd. In the 21.5T Buggy class, Nathan Krone took the win from TQ man Paul Slifka. In Truck Mod, Cam Zammit took TQ with his T5M but had some poor luck in the finals, with Matt Kellet taking A3 to finish second with his T5M.

This event was also combined with the Coleman Cup, which is a memorial for a young racer who passed away from terminal illness. The winner of the Coleman Cup was Bazz Densley, who not only prepared buggies for his two kids to race, but also helped with track prep and even cooking the BBQ through the weekend. It's because of racers like him that the sport of RC is so much fun!

Thanks to the club for putting on the event!
