Evans & Shearer Win At Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions
The 24th running of the Reedy International Off-Road Race of Champions was held by OCRC Raceway in Huntington Beach, CA for the fifth time over the weekend of January 20th. Racers from around the globe descended on the popular dirt race track to compete in either the Invitational or Open class. Entrants in the Invitational class is reserved for drivers who have won the event in the past, world champions, worlds finalist and other significant racing achievements while the Open class is so popular that a lottery drawing is required to select the entrants.
This year, Team Associated was represented by 11 drivers in the Invitational class and 7 drivers in the Open a-mains. As the 12 Invitational rounds of racing concluded the title was up for grabs among three Team Associated drivers; Spencer Rivkin, Ryan Cavalieri and Dustin Evans. With all three drivers racing each other in the 11th round, Evans got a much needed win against the competition to propel him in to the points lead and that put him in a position to control his own destiny. With a victory in round 12 as well, Evans secured the overall championship and etched his name on to the Mike Reedy Heritage trophy for the second time in his career.
In the 2wd Open class, Team Associated driver Brad Shearer put together two solid main events with second places in both of them to prove that consistency is key at the Reedy Race. Even without wining a main, Shearer and his B6 took home the 2wd Open championship ahead of the competition and secured his position in the 2019 Invitational class.
