BRCA TC Nationals Round 2

After three rounds of qualifying on Saturday at Round #2 of the BRCA TC National at West London, Olly Jefferies topped the time sheets with wins in qualifying rounds two and three and it looked like things were very much on the up for the AE/Reedy driver. Standing in his way at this point was Chris Grainger, who had won the first round of qualifying.

Qualifying round four on Sunday morning saw Grainger take the fastest time and even the score heading into the fifth and final round. Olly came back strong to win round five to capture the pole position for the A Main. Olly was joined in the final by team mate Alan Bickerstaff, who was equally impressive in qualifying.

Olly had to shoulder some heavy pressure early in A-Main leg one until mistakes by the chasing pack allowed Olly to cruise to the win. Leg two saw Chris Grainger breathing down Olly's neck for the first 3 minutes. As the pair entered the fast sweeper Chris put his nose up the inside of the TC6.1 and Olly eased the door shut. Due to the speed, and the fact that they were going through one of the most demanding corners on the national touring car calendar, there was an inevitable crash. Chris waited for Olly to recover but in that time Colin Price had sneaked through to take the leg two win, with Olly crossing the line in second.

A win in the final leg of the A Main gave Olly the overall win in Round #2 and a maximum point score. The well-earned result puts Olly back into the championship picture after a disappointing fifth at the previous round at Cotswold's. Unfortunately, there were no lucky breaks for Alan Bickerstaff - he finished well down the order.

"This year's National Championship is the most competitive in many years. Any one of possibly twenty drivers could win a National and mistakes and errors are now heavily punished due to the depth of competition, so winning at West London is a great result for us. Consistency may be the key to a good championship campaign, so with that in mind we start to prepare and plan now for round three at Halifax." Olly Jefferies
